  1. Paul enter your postcode or town name. Though when I put just Cambridge in it put me as the Cambridge the other side of the pond :mad:

    Ah, excellent, thanks for that Matt. I've placed myself in my favourite Cambridge pub, and if you love WW2 aviation, then its the only one to drink in. :)

  2. Can someone explain to me how this works ? I go to the map, zoom in to where I want my location to be, then click on Add Your Location button. What do I type in the ' Your Location' field...my name or what ?

    I tried doing that, and it said my location had been added...but there was nothing there in the map.

  3. If its for the 747-400, try this...

    [LIGHTS]

    light.0 = 3, -225.90, 0.30, 4.72, fx_shockwave_navwhi_l_nl

    light.1 = 2, -225.52, 0.00, 3.94, fx_shockwave_strobe_3_nl

    light.2 = 1, -32.750, 1.00, 14.868, fx_shockwave_beaconb_nl

    light.3 = 1, -86.149, 1.00, -11.735, fx_shockwave_beaconb_nl

    light.4 = 5, -76.800, 20.40, -3.700, fx_Shockwave_Landing_light_747_rw // ShockWave light

    light.5 = 5, -76.800, -20.40, -3.700, fx_Shockwave_Landing_light_747_lw // ShockWave light

    light.6 = 5, -75.500, 18.30, -3.700, fx_Shockwave_Landing_light_747_rw // ShockWave light

    light.7 = 5, -75.500, -18.30, -3.700, fx_Shockwave_Landing_light_747_lw // ShockWave light

    light.8 = 6, -21.7, 1.00,-11.0, fx_shockwave_landing_light_747_nose

    light.9 = 8, -77.000, 26.00, -4.000, fx_pmdgwinglight

    light.10= 8, -77.000, -26.00, -4.000, fx_pmdgwinglight

  4. The title says it all, really. When returning to the VC from other views, the textures take a second or two to reload. Its a minor problem I've always had with the Cat but as I'm in the process of reinstalling FSX from scratch, I thought I would ask if anyone has similar problems, or has a cure.

    Here's my computer specs;

    Win 7 64-bit Professional

    Intel i7 960 3.2 GHz

    Asus P6T Deluxe V2

    6GB Corsair Dominator GT TRI-DDR3 2000MHz

    Nvidia GTX-285

    OS Drive: 640GB SATA 3-Gb/s 16MB Cache ( 7200 rpm )

    FSX Drive: 300GB WD VelociRaptor® SATA 16MB CACHE (10,000rpm)

    800W Quiet Quad Rail PSU

    Coolit Domino A.L.C. CPU Liquid Cooler

    Thanks for any help. :)

  5. Its pleasing to know Aerosoft is in good and growing health, because the hobby needs such companies. I have the DHC-2, Catalina, Huey and the astoundingly good FlightSim Commander 9, and based on those, I'm sure the success will continue.

  6. In fact even just dragging the PBY5 out of the water on it's bold-on wheels was tricky, they tended to snap of. I got this image on my disk that shows all the major types. Not 100% sure where it comes from so if it comes from a copyrighted source I apologize.

    post-43-0-24167500-1299841337_thumb.jpg

    Very interesting to see them in sequence.

  7. And of course, the amphibian PBY5A sometimes found the water was so hard, its didn't know whether to lower the gear or not !

    image_resizephp.jpg

    No, this isn't an accident...it landed and took off again like that . :)

  8. The PBY5 was the pure flying boat, while the PBY5A was fitted with conventional retractable undercarriage, making it an amphibian. The wheels on the PBY5 were bolted on when they wanted to pull it out of the water. They weren't fitted while it was in flight, and were not used for taking off or landing.

    Its all there on the web, you know. All you have to do is enter 'PBY' in Google.

  9. Once You get to the point where You feel in total control of the helicopter, it will be much more rewarding than learning to fly fixed wing aircraft.

    I small tip on hover training...

    Don´t focus on nearby ground objects. Better look on a terain feature at the horizon and try to keep it in the same position relative to Your windscreen and You will find t´hat hovering becomes much easier.

    Finn, you are exactly right in what you say. I have been keeping my attention on distant objects ( buildings, trees etc. ) and my abilities are improving.

    I also bought a registered copy of FSUIPC two weeks ago, and I think that is giving me more precise control, though I have yet to explore all the possibilities that FSUIPC offers.

  10. I like it too. I don't normally bother with helicopters in MSFS because I find them too difficult to control. However, this add-on looked too good to miss, and along with the little "hover guage/auto hover" modification, I'm using it regularly.

    I might even be able to dispense with the auto hover soon too... ;)

    Well done Aerosoft, another fine addition to FSX.

  11. Hi Guys,

    Now this is a strange one, just resently I have noticed that when I open an exit on any aircraft it will open then almost immediatly will slam shut. I thought this might be a Huey problem but it is doing it on all other aircraft. Can anyone here give us a clue in what could be casuing this? Timm

    Are you sure you're not having this problem ?

  12. We'll see if we can add more models so a cargo version might be possible later on.

    And indeed we don't remove the crew in external view. Without any disrespect to those who do, we think it's a bit of a non feature. It's simulating a parked aircraft, while we like to devote all efforts to the actual flying bit. It's the same with wing views and hatches that open to show stuff only a mechanic sees. Nice in a screen shot and cool on a feature list, but after you seen it one time you never use it again. Most certainly not as you do what we hope you do and that's to enjoy flying the aircraft.

    A non-feature ? Its no more a non-feature than sliding windows and opening doors on any other model, which Aerosoft does include, and which are in no way related to the flying bit. Wheel chocks, pitot head covers, tie-downs...we've had all of those too.

    The idea of being able to go down to one crew figure is so that those of us who'll be flying the Huey in a civilian context, with one pilot and no crew chief, can see that represented in the external model. Its not something to see once and never again...its a configuration that civilian operators would use all the time.

    Still, its your model, not ours.

  13. OK, lets try again...third time lucky, I hope..;)

    I notice that unlike some other aircraft add-ons, it is not possible to remove crewmen from the exterior model by altering the payload weight for that position to zero. As I'd like to fly the Huey on my own as a civilian cargo carrier in Airhauler, how easy is it to add that feature ? Or does it have to be included during the construction of the model ?

  14. Sorry to repost this question, I think it might have got overlooked...

  15. ( Aerosoft...please...forgive me for this. I know you guys have spent many hours on this fine model's fidelity, but I just had to go hunting for something to help me. All I can say is that maybe people who otherwise can not fly helicopters will now buy the Huey, and Mathijs can pay the harbour fees on his luxury yacht for another year. )

    If, like me, you'd love to fly helicopters in FSX but every time you attempt to hover you balance for about 5 seconds before over-controlling and skittering away sideways into a hedge, then this is the answer to our prayers.

    Yes I know we should make the effort to do it like proper pilots, but some of us just want to fly around and pretend we are good. If you just want help in keeping your helicopter stable in the hover, this gauge provides all the info you need, but also has an Auto Hover function which will keep you rock steady at the selected height. You will still be able to move, yaw etc, but only slowly.

    First, go get the gauge here... http://www.flusi.info/tools.html

    Scroll down till you see Hover Gauge (FS9) ...don't worry, it works perfectly well in FSX too.

    Drop the as532_hover.gau file into your main FSX Gauges folder and make the following alterations to your Huey panel.cfg

    Press shift+3 and the gauge pops up as shown here:

    To engage the auto hover, just click on the cover of the HVR button, then click on it again to activate. The height of the hover can be adjusted with the + and - buttons, and if you are ready to land, match the two pitch ribbon indicators on the left and click on HVR again to disengage it.

    Be aware that you have to be travelling at 10 knots or under for the HVR to engage.

    The only conflict I have come across in the Huey is that while HVR is engaged, you can only open the pilots door. No matter which combination of Shift+E+ ( number), only the pilot's door will operate. So, if you want to auto-hover with the big sliding doors open, then get them opened before pressing HVR

    Here is the Auto Hover in action. The Huey has been hovering there for the last ten minutes. I am not touching the joystick or throttle at all. In fact, I am in the kitchen making a cup of tea.

  16. Okay that indicates the startup flt you used (when it did not work) had a setting we did not anticipate. Would you be so kind to send that to support@aerosoft.com?

    Should be an easy fix for us to add that parameter. One thing however, does it work okay if you press the upper image first and then the lower one? I started doing that and I never had any problems since.

    No, clicking on the upper Cold and Dark image first doesn't help. All that happens is the electrics, instruments and avionics power up.

    Yes, I shall email support with it, as requested.

    Just another thing Mathijs; I notice that unlike some other aircraft add-ons, it is not possible to remove crewmen from the exterior model by altering the payload weight for that position to zero. As I'd like to fly the Huey on my own as a civilian cargo carrier in Airhauler, how easy is it to add that feature ? Or does it have to be included during the construction of the model ?
