  1. Hello,

I'm trying to paint the falcon and the fuse comes out ok but the wings and stab are no longer see through after saving the paint, I'm using FS Repaint from Abacus and Paint Shop Pro ver.9.1. It's all I can afford to paint with, can't afford Photoshop. I'm I using the wrong programs? I only aplying color to the fuse parts on the texture, I don't think I'm even touching the wings and stab. Thanks,

Edit: BTW I love this plane, it's really good for checking out scenery. Good job very fun plane.

  2. On screen capturing, I have been using Debut mostly for quite some time now. But I noticed that it may have changed to payware as of late. For freeware, I'd check VirtualDub also, I think it has screen capturing capabilities too.

    Hello,

Thanks for your suggestions, but do you have any links for these? Thanks again, I have downloaded Fraps, and one other that is a trial version, and I have already bought Movavi for converting my cell videos from the RC flying site to my computer. Works well and does alot of other things too.

  3. yes it should be automatic and simple - set the wind at something sensible (e.g. 15-20knots) perpendicular to the ridge, and tuck into the slope. CumulusX has a 'debug' window you can open from the application menu bar of the cumulusx window (fly in 'windowed' mode so you can see it) and that will read out the real-time ridge lift CumulusX is generating. A simple test is at Mifflin (KRVL) - set the wind to 315 degrees, 17 knots, and fly from the airport south to the local ridge. As you fly along that ridge there will be a good updraft, enough for you to fly at 100 knots all the way along the ridge to the SW. You should really tuck into the ridge though - at or below ridgetop just on the windward (i.e. NW) side of the ridge. After you've confirmed it's all working, turn the debug window off and fly fullscreen.

    Hello,

Thanks for the replies. I had a very good and long flight, I set the wind for 20kts with gusts to 25 out of the NE, and I started my flight at Honolulu Itnl on the island of Oahu. with a tow plane, I had to get over the peak to the other NE side of the island, but once I got to the NE side I found the lift all along the NE side of the islands ridge. This is a very good place for sloping, and I have Mega screnery installed for this island too so it was a beautiful flight as well. One thing I noticed though is the lift doesn't extend out in front of the ridge very much, seems like I have to stay close to the ridge to get the lift that a 20knt wind should generate. The lift actually should start in front of the ridge like the image you posted shows, but it seems to not extend in front of the ridge enough I'm wondering if I need to set the weather differently, any input would be great. Overall this program works very well. I also got behind the ridge once and fell into sink bigtime  , but I was able to get back in front and keep flying, so that is modelled very well. The only problem I'm having with this software is the jitters you describe in the manual when using it in Windows 7. Is there a way to stop the jitters that get saometimes?, also in the manual you mention a dll file to fix this, but it looks like it was for an earlier version so I'm guessing that it was included in version 1.8? I get the jitters still with windows 7 64bit, but not all the time only in some views. Thanks again for your help, having great fun with this program. BTW I used the K version of the Discus for this flight so I could do some aerobatics after diving off the ridge gaining incredible speed! :D Woohoo!

I need to install a video recorder to start recording some of my flights. Any suggestions on a program to use, payware or freeware, doesn't matter.

    See ya, Rockitglider :glider_s:

  4. Hello,

I have been reading the manual for CumulusX! and I am a bit confused, Is the slope or ridge lift gemerated automatically, or does it require the loading of css files? Do I just select wind at the face of a mountain and go flying to achive slope lift or is there other settings that need to be set before slope lift will be generated? Thanks for your help.

    Sincerely, Rockitglider :glider_s:

  5. Rockitglider: please let us know how you make out with the registered CumulusX!. I am giving the demo a try this week. I works well with thermal lift, but ridge

or slope does not seem to not be available. Other wise a very good addision to FSX.

DA! never mind I got it now. Seems I never installed the Sim Probe part of the CX! down load. Still some learning curve to go but Ridge lift is showing up now.

    Hello,

Well I originally bought the full version to stop the jitters when in chase view but it really didn't stop that all the way but it did help it. I really like the tow plane function, being able to use it wherever I want to. I used to use the tow plane with Emma Field alot. I recomend it as it really doesn't cost much and I'm sure alot of work went in to it and still does. I still have not used the ridge lift much as I've been busy chasing thermals :), but I will try soon.

    See ya, Rockitglider :glider_s:

  6. Thanks for the compliments - it's good you're starting with a detailed understanding of slope soaring, so ridge soaring in the Discus should be second nature...

If you haven't installed it already, get CumulusX - this will give you thermals with cumulus clouds on top *and* ridge lift, the two essentials for soaring.

As a RC pilot, you won't have spent too much time with the instruments I guess, and the Discus has a full competition panel. But altitude/speed/vario will do for local soaring... there are a couple of tutorials in a sub-forum of this one.

Here are some ridge-soaring tasks, all designed for a NW wind (of, say, 17 knots), from Mifflin, PA:

    Hello B21,

I'll give this PA flight a try for sure, looks like fun. I've tried ridge lift at Andres with a 17knot wind, and it didn't work very well, but that was before I registered the CumulusX!, so I'm going to finish reading the manual before I setup the program for ridge lift again. If you have any tips or setup files you can share, please do. Thanks again for your reply.

  7. You should be able to get higher, but not that slow. Look out for the blue marking on the ASI and fly this speed. This is best climb speed for engine operation. And release water.

With water released you should get around 200ft/min climb until 2000ft or something, maybe less, and then a bit slower. But you should reach more than 4500 ft.

However, it is a weak noisy engine. It is made for coming home, not climbing to stratusphere :D

    Cheers Joachim

    Hello again,

Ok that is most likely the problem, I'll try releasing the ballast water. It definitely works good for coming home, but the problem is getting a good launch from the winch on a glider that has a motor in it, very heavy for the winch I think. The first time I tried I broke the winch line, so since then I try not to pull up too hard, therefore not getting a very good launch, I try to zoom the launch at the end just before release but I don't get a whole lot of speed built up to climb much. Thanks for your help with this, just want you to know I'm not complaining, just trying to get the best flights possible from your sail planes. Thanks,

    Rockitglider :glider_s:

  8. OK,

Well I did a long flight with the BT and it seems like it takes about an hour to get a thousand feet altitude. Is this correct? I'm flying with Fair Weather set, no wind, maybe that's the problem. I'm keeping the glider just above stall speed climing very slowly, any faster climb and it stalls. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Otherwise the glider flies good, but didn't get to do much with it as I was only able to get to 4500 feet Approx. Made it back to Andres for a smooth landing.

    Rockitglider :glider_s:

  9. Hello again,

I got it running, I had to dive to gain more speed for the motor to start, guess I wan't going fsst enough But thanks for your help. The manual is in kph and the plane is in knots on the speedometer(British Version). It's working well.

    See ya, Rockitglider

  10. hmm, please describe what you're actually doing. Only one single little point forgotten or wrong will cause a not working engine.

    Cheers Joachim

    Hello Joachim,

OK I load the plane Discus BT at andres field on RWY 28, turn on power to GPS and c4, then start winch launch, after launching I trim the plane for a straight smooth glide, then I extend the motor, turn on ignition, change static to motor, after light turns green I turn on fuel to open, then I pull the decompression lever.

    Thanks, Rockitglider

  11. Hello,

I'm having trouble getting the BT engine going. Since the tow plane won't tow the BT because it has an engine, and the BT won't launch with the engine alone from the ground, I use the winch start to get it airorne then try to activate the engine following the steps on page 37 in the ENG manual, it just won't start. Does anyone have a procedure that works consistently with this version of the Discus. I have no trouble with the BM version, the motor works well on that one. Please help, Thanks,

  12. Chris was nice to fly with you online, as was it with all who joined us. The weather was aweful towards the end but we gots lots of good flying done. Screenshots to follow tomorrow. Also tomorrow evening (1800 UTC til late) there will be another flyin, thins time the theme will be a group flyin to LOWI :)

    Hey Matt,

I need to get Squakwin? I don't remember you telling me that the other day when I signed up for VAE, where do I get that, and what is it used for? I've never used it before. Do you have a link? Thanks,

    Rockitglider

  13. Is that teamspeak 2? As far as I know VAE are using an old version of teamspeak that they give you a link to when registered. Im also x64 but the version liked two didnt specify how many bits it was lol.

Thanks for your help Matt, I'm all setup. I guess the bit thing doesn't matter.

    See ya, Rockitglider

  14. Hi Rockitglider, We dont actually use gamespy. If you wish to participate in our online events then you will need to register with VAE (its free). See this thread for all the information about VAE.

Any questions then ask, we dont bite

    Hello Matt,

Thanks for the quick reply, Do you know if I should install the 32bit or 64bit version of Teamspeak, I ask because I run 64bit windows 7, but the FSX is installed as 32bit program. Thanks again for the quick reply, I got on the site you linked me to and registered, just waiting now for comformation.

    See ya, Rockitglider :)

  15. Hello,

I have been trying to create an account on the default Gamespy through MS FSX, but I keep getting an error that says your password must be less than 16 characters and in alphanumeric format, and my password has less than 16 and I use leters and numbers,. Does anyone know what is happening, I've tried enabling ports in my fire wall (Zone Alarm) and I keep getting errors, Please help. Thanks,

    Rockitglider :)

  16. Hello,

I purchesed both of the Discus glider packages this week, and I have to say they fly really well, a small learning curve because all I've ever flown is RC Gliders, but I have been flying them for over 15 years. I'm very impressed at the detail both in the visual and flight modeling of these gliders. I think the K model is going to take some getting used to as I do my aerobatics in RC gliders and this is a big difference. The models don't yaw as much as the real thing, thereby making it easier to control in flight. But I'm sure with some practice I will get it without stalling  . Thanks for doing the Gliders, they are my favorite planes to fly. From what I've read in the manuals that came with them it was a great deal of work to complete them. I hope there will be some online flying for these often, but I need to figure out how to fly online first(Getting connected). Well, It's time to go up to the hill and fly my RC gliders, so have a great day, If you would like to see the hill, check out the link on my signature, there is also a weekly linked blog on RCGroups forum that has more current pics under the name MWilliams

    See ya, Rockitglider :D

  17. Hello,

I am interested in purchasing the Sion X scenery, but I was wondering if the screen shots on the product page is default scenery or Swiss ProX. Thanks for your help,

    Rockitglider

  18. Hi all,

my vote goes to the PNW, too. Man, I loved the times back in FS9 with Orcas Island as my preferred base. So what about a small island over there? Speed boat ferries as a connection to Seattle and Vancouver would be sufficient I think ;) Plenty of room for houses and and enough water for our cats... In the end something around KORS would be great.

    Cheers

    Thorsten

I agree, but I think we need to go a little south of there as the VIC+ freeware scenery covers the orcas island and most of the area north/north west of there, I think we should go more towards Emma or Diamond. But very beautiful area for sure. Anyone who used to fly Emma would still love the area I think.

    See ya, Rockitglider :D

  19. Hello,

Looking at the Andras field from above, the runway and other roads & taxiways around it should produce very reliable thermals, I don't know if FSX models thermals that way, It Should, and also, I don't know how the real winds are in the area, like in Florida we have mostly easterly winds most of the time except in winter, but if the winds are mostly northerly in that area then there should be tremendous lift on the slopes to the south of the airpark from the winds hitting the mountains and shooting upward at an even faster rate than the wind speed itself, and if the wind is 15 knots and above it should produce very strong lift to thousands of feet ASL. Does CumulusX model this? I just started using it last night. It seems to work pretty good. I need to read more about it to learn how to adjust the settings. In the same respect if the winds are coming from the south across the mountains we could expect turbulence and rotor effect in the Andras area. But I think we could reliably have a thermal producing lift from the airport itself, and it would be realistic to some degree.

  20. Hello,

Has Aerosoft considered having a wishlist in the shop, or a way for customers to keep track of the future purchases they want to make, I use this feature at other online shops to keep track of things I want to purchase in the future so I don't forget them, and so I don't have to go find them when I'm ready to purchase. You could also have a link to add to cart from the wish list. Just a thought, if this is already implemented please let me know where to find it so I can figure out how to use it, Thanks,

    Rockitglider

  21. @ Rockitglider

You'd be surprised at how many people really wanted the amphib Twotter. Me too.

The main reason Aerosoft has for not doing it, is that there aren't many in the real world - the weight penalty is sometjing like two pax if I remember right.

I can understand that there will be a fair deal more work involved with mdls and animations. Maybe we can hope for a payware addon to the addon in a few months? Just because not many RW owners buy floats, it doesn't mean us simmers can't.

FSX is still a game, a hobby, plain fun, simulation... So we make some fictional floatywheelers!

I'd give 5 Euros for an amphib addon. You only need to make an mdl file - I'll do all the changes to the aircraft configs to add amphotters if you want. As far as the performance difference goes, the dev knows how the -100 floaty differs from the wheely...

    repeat it and tweak it.

    Agreed,

I'm not a complainer, in fact I don't think I have about any other product yet. I was just really looking forward to an anphibian, and I too would probly pay 5 Euros for one. I could care a les about real world weights on the twotters, I do it for fun not to train for real world flight. But whatever. Some you get your way, and some you don't.

    See ya, Rockitglider 8)
