Hi,

Have been looking for Bill Bomball's CCS_New_Zealand_2 file (South Island). Was this package ever released? If so, it is unfortunately no longer available at AvSim.

If anyone has a copy and is willing to share it could they please PM me?

TIA.

Regards,
Dorian

I will do some looking over the weekend to see if that is one of the files I have. Don had given me a pretty extensive collection of slope files back when I had been uploading them to Avsim. Is there something in particular that you wanted that was maybe released with that package besides being the South Island? If not, please refer to THIS post for a much faster way to make slope files, you won't regret it.

Thanks, Scott. If you could look I would be most appreciative. I will also download the Slope Data Base Tool and see how things develop from there.

Once again, many thanks.

Dorian

Hello Dorian, I found that zip file off of an old hard drive I had. It's about 29.2MB large, so I am unsure as to how to get it to you. I will have to look at how large the largest file I can email, I may have to split the file using a program I used to have, and send it in 2 or 3 parts. Then, when you receive them, all you would have to do is run a simple exe or bat file (cannot remember which) to make it back into one file. It has been years since using the program, and I'm unsure as to whether it will work anymore, but will look into it if you would like me to.

Hello again Dorian, I may have some bad news as far as getting that file to you. I found that the zip file in question has a dat file on it that is corrupted. Which means I will have to sort through some boxes to find the original CD/DVD the zip file came off of. This may take some time, but it was a good thing I started on it today.

I'll PM you again with the results when I find it.

Thanks, Scott. Looks as if the South Island is getting a hammering in more ways than one (what with the most recent earthquakes and all). :glare_s:

Hi ,

Just wondering if this is the same file as this slope data on the SOAR website..... (see attached screenshot)....

I have FS2004 and was trying to get all the info for the 3 NZ alps races to have a go at them. This slope lift data file seems to be the only file that I need to be able to complete the setup to do these tasks in FS2004.

If anyone can give this to me that would be good.

Cheers Greg

I'm looking into it, also into the problem I get when trying to download it. I know I've got it somewhere on one of these hard drives, but let me keep looking.

Hey Greg, I may have the file in question, but I am reading some old posts about it just to be sure you are getting what you need. The slope files may not be as good as what they can be today. Have you looked into the Slope Data Base Tool! originally designed for FSX. It can make the slope files in a fraction of the time it would take to do it with CCS2004, and will be better quality as well. You can download data from anywhere in the world so you can go slope soaring anywhere you would like.

"...Data from http://srtm.csi.cgiar.org/, or via the Google Earth interface at http://www.ambiotek.com/topoview are much more recommendable. These are so called "Version 3" files, meaning that data voids are already filled with reasonably interpolated, or manually edited data...." - from the tools ReadMe file.

If I remember right, it's quite simple. I'm looking into doing a little tutorial on how it is done so people can see just how easy it is. In the mean time, I will continue to find out why the zip file is no longer on the SOAR site, it may have been taken off for other reasons.

Hi Scott,

I will have a look at the Slope Data Base Tool it sounds like that might be a better option to add lift to this region, especially if it can add lift to scenary else where...

Dont bust your guts looking for the missing file, there are a few other task flights that are listed that look good. I am currently just doing couple of FS9 training flights at Omarama.....

Thanks Greg

I found out that the zip file is only a portion of the South Island, so I went ahead and downloaded the needed ASCII files for the whole New Zealand and used the tool to make the slope files. It was late, but I did the whole process (downloads and slope file creation) in about 34 minutes.
