Hi All,
I am no longer able to use my Flight Sim and want some advice how best to un-install/re-install?
I thought I had isolated the problem to the New Zealand stuff, but even with all of it un-registered I still get black screening every 2-5 minutes or so.
Should I un-install NZ completely; I say this because the problem started when we started flying NZ in earnest.
If anyone has a miracle fix to save me the weeks of work to get FS9 back the way it was, I would be very interested.
I would like to re-install a glider version and power version of FS9; how would I do that?
Regards
Tony

tony copy all the aircraft folders etc and the scenery to another safe place...

then for the scenery here is my usual method

copy these to a safe place also..

then one by one deactivate in the scenery library then delete the folder itself

untill you have no problems this way you can isolate the scenery that is causing the problems and copy the ones back that are not giving you any problems.. and reactivate in the usual way

if this doesnt work then probably you will need a reintsall, but if you have all the scenery files and aircraft folders once you have a new install you can simply copy these back into a new install without any problems..

i have a backup on dvd of all addons installed as they are in the directory's and never have had a problem just copying them back in.

you can also do this with ya prefernce settings and fs9 config file aswell :)

hope this helps in some way if not drop me a line into my email

good luck

tom

Hi Tony,

Toms advice sounds good.

I've installed and uninstalled the NZ sceneries as different combinations several times.
On occasion thing have gone awry but have alsways been simply cured by following the process that Tom advises. That is de-register, close FS9 down, delete the scenery folder(s) and then do a clean re-instal of that particular scenery.

I've not had any trouble when only using the mesh, toposcenery and updated landclass without any other scenery add-ons.

Best of luck smiles.gif

I need to warn everyone who has installed the 'Launcher ' program of a huge problem.
I have just decided to uninstall FS9, so I went to 'Add and Remove Programs' and clicked to remove it.
I then get a dialogue box up which asks if I want to remove 'Launcher', so I click yes, it then asks if you 'Want to remove the reference to FS9 from Add and Remove Programs', so in my naivety I clicked yes.
Now I have no way of removing FS9 from my system.
I was expecting a remove FS9 dialogue to appear, it doesn't.
In my honest opinion this extremely dangerous feature should be removed from 'Launcher' as soon as possible.
Any way out of this mess?

Tony,

The "feature" you refer to does not belong to the Launcher program itself, but to the uninstall associated with the launcher. You probably installed the Launcher straight into FS9 and while trying to uninstall FS9 you also uninstalled the Launcher, which was not your initial intention. Why it proposed to remove the FS9 entry from the Add and Remove programs I dont know. confused2.gif

In your situation now, I'd suggest you download a Registry Cleaner on the web, then remove FS9 folders and files manually, and clean the register with this Register utility (which by the same occasion will clean other useless stuff from your register). I've been using RegCleaner for years now and as far as I remember it's always been safe.

Tony,

I had a similar problem a while back...could not find the FS9 uninstaller when I needed to do a fresh install.

Guess what? It's on Disc 1. Just put the first disk in the drive, wait for the autolaunch menu, and you'll find the FS9 uninstaller there :)

Thanks Chris, I did manage to suss that eventually.
BTW I have done a quick and easy re-install with continuing black screens.
I am currently laid up with a re-occurance of my heart problem so have borrowed my wifes laptop.
May get back on the PC tomorrow, then back to hospital for re-install (only joking) in a few weeks.
Will have to do a complete clearout and put everything from Dec 05 back in and hope for the best.
Regards
Tony

Tony,

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

The other thing you should try is to do a DirectX reinstall. I found that doing this (sometimes accompanied with re-installing or upgrading video drivers) is what solved the problem for me.

Get well soon !!

Recently I had a similar thing occuring and it took ages to do stuff NOW I discovered that there are a number of issues and the most important of these is the Hidden files and the second FS9.cfg that exists in Your " My Documents " , aparently these can argue and cause all sorts of dramas. esspecially when it comes to talking to FSUIPC.

Also your user profile should be set ( more speed ), and a couple of other thing like this ALL give stability and performance boosts.

Maurie
This sounds interesting, but poses me some questions.
What do I do about Hidden files, FS9.cfg and how and where do I set user profile?
Can you tell me what to do please?
Regards
Tony

OK sorry for the delay Tony do you have Teamspeak or other Voice client that you use and we can communicate with and I can walk you through as this may I think be far quicker than folloeing a big post line for line.
I frequent a TS server here where we ONline fly at an IP of 61.9.196.112 Called Australian VB NAv Challenge

On your desktop you'll have an icon pointing to "My Documents" Now mine isn't where Windows expects it to be , I don't have nothing on my "C:\" except the OS nothing - except maybe some software that does not allow me to place it else where of NEEDS to on "C:\" to run correctly.

Now I had some files in a Flight Simulator Files directory that for what ever reason appeared there in the corse of play.
This started to confuse the FS Kernal and it began to argue and essentially stop responding due to not being able to distinguish which file and or directory to use.

Anyway I deleted all in that directory after first zipping the contents as a backup precaution.

Then I followed this course of action.

START - RUN - EXPLORER ( I hate the My Computer) ((No Tree)) Now Select TOOLS and then Folder Options - Then Select VIEW from the Tabbed menu and then you should see the settings on the left, you need change your settings temporarily to those on the right
IPB Image

This is so you can navigate to here and actually see the directories below.
Like this " C:\Documents and Settings\Maurice A.C. King\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9"
The main files of interest are highlighted, save these as a Zip and then delete them.
IPB Image

Note the highlighted Directories.

IPB Image

I had a copy of those above somehow attached to my Flight Simulator Files Dir that resides ( on my system at least ) on "D:\" ie "D:\My Documents\Flight Simulator Files"
I pruned this down to leave just the Directory below

IPB Image

After all of this then I reset the Hidden Directory, Why? Windows doesn't have to search for it, being hidden it's indexed and therefor Windows and more importantly FS9 knows where to find things with out arguments with the OS. Another trick is actual set your user profile so once again Windows and FS9 don't have to go looking, all of which drags time and processor power from more important tasks like getting FS running.

Maurie I hope this helps

Worst case edit the registry and delete the referance to FS9 and install over the top restoring corrupt files, back up your Aircraft and scenery first as a precaution.

Hi Mozz,
Big thank you for taking so much trouble to help me.
I will be busy most of next week, but will then contact you for a chat on TS.
I will also have a go at the tweaks you suggest.

Tony,

It isn't a problem only took 15 Mins or so, no biggy.
I didn't have the problems you describe as such but very similar, random blackies errors in the facilities and other dlls and another fellow put me on to what amounts to a reset without a reload.
It is my firm belief that if we all help each other especially when we have perplexing problems such as yours then we build up a knowledge base for other's to work on.

My Aero tow guage is in the final stages of developement and I hope to have a beta available for testing by June. I'm sorry for the delay but the thermal generation seems to go nuts when aircraft are aerow towed rather than VET launched :( .
But that is another day.
