BadPilot1966 14
I'm trying to get into serious simming with the Aerosoft Airbus now and thinking of upgrading my controls. I'm only using a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick at the moment. I'm not really sure about the best way of starting to upgrade. These are my thoughts: 1. I could buy a new joystick like the Hotas Warthog, which I really like. But it has no z-axis and throttle control and the Airbus demands it. The complete Warthog unit is pretty expensive. 2. Rudder controls: Are they really essential for Airbus simming? And would you prefer the Saitek or CH Pro pedals for it? 3. Or would a combined throttle and joystick unit like the Saitek X-55 do the trick? This joystick offers z-axis and maybe this is the best solution without rudder pedals? I really don't know what to get. I'd really like to get the Warthog and use the keyboard with it as a start, but this won't work, right? Any helpful thoughts are appreciated... TiiMMeY 14
Without the rudder pedals the x55 is without doubt the best one you can get (in my opinion). But it`s also not the cheapest one. I use the Saitek Pro Flight Pedals and I`m really satified with them! My joystick is the Logitech Extreme 3D. It`s one of the cheaper ones (50€ when I bought it) and I think for this price it`s the best one you can get. It all depends on how much money you can/want to spend for it! But rudder pedals really improve the realism of your flight sim. I´m really happy that I got em.
Cheyenne Chief Pilot 829
The bigger difference in realism with rudder pedals results from the rudder axis now being controlled by moving your feet. You can achieve even more realism by using toe brakes. If you are on a budget, consider buying pedals for car racing games: They don't provide toe braking, but are considerably cheaper than "true" rudder pedals, which come toe brake-equipped. BadPilot1966 14
I bit the bullet and made a bigger investment... Just got a Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog (with throttle) and Saitek Rudder Pedals. A serious hobby demands some serious money... The Hotas Warthog is BIG and HEAVY! BadPilot1966 14
Well, for anybody who considers to get the Hotas Warthog, too: I sold mine! Too big, too heavy on my desk, who is primarily used for work... I downsized to the Saitek T1600M and I'm totally happy with this joystick and my rudder pedals... The Hotas might be great if you don't have to carry around your joystick very often. But it got on my nerves pretty soon: Way too heavy!

uadriver 6
as mentioned by tim above but with 2 off Logitechs, at least one a 3D, you then have a tiller plus the necessary sidestick functions .... & of course Saitek pedals & a Saitek throttle quadrant (with reverse) !! cheers john
