Managed Descent Profile

Ho to all,

I have some problems with Managed Descent Profile, since there is a lot of vertical speed rate variations. The rate of descent change also in an unusual vertical speed of -4500 ft/min where few seconds before was -2000 ft/min. This happens also with constant wind (or with Zero wind). Each time I have to switch to Selected with Vertical Speed mode, in order to have a smooth profile...

This sounds more or less like an RW report. DES mode is not the most smooth mode in RL.

The sim might be a bit too rough once in awhile but by selecting VS you are doing exactly the same as real pilots when faced with this behaviour.

Just a question concerning real-world behavior:

Do the real-world Airbus computers really command descents with up to 3000-4000fpm which require manual pilot interaction by selecting V/S mode? :o

I'd have thought that they would have some limiter (maybe around -2500fpm or so) built in.

Yes, they really do. ;)

As soon as possible I'will post a video of a Managed Descent. The behaviour of the Aircraft is not correct. With Zero Wind as soon as the Descent path is established the FM it can perform some minor adjustment but not continuosly Vertical Speed oscillation from -1000 ft/Min to -4000 ft/min. This continuos major adjustments result in a Up and Down Descent.

But it seems as if you missed the comments from Frank who is a real bus driver.

And please try not to use forum and PM for those issues.

Hi Mathijs,

no I read the comment from Frank. I am not a Pilot, but an A320 Engineer that works every day with this kind of Aircraft. Problably I have not explained well the problems...I think that a Video is better.
