using multiple monitors

Hello,

i would really like to know how the home builders are using the aerosoft airbus in the home cockpit. i have several monitors and before purchasing i knew no 2d panels but i saw this post and it looked very promising.

http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/65608-how-to-set-up-a-system-with-4-monitors-wits-airbus-x-extended

Now the bad news, this does not work with version 1.21. When you try and open the dispays, the only one that opens is the PFD. The ND does a black stutter and like disappears.

I was out of luck with that tweak so i tried this one

http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/87280-add-a-pfd-and-nd-popup/

However it does not work with P3D and also cause all the other views to turn black when moved to different monitors. Once i remove this view all other views return to normal and display on other monitors.

I have 6 monitors. 3 connected to a gtx 780 (used for main view) and 3 connected to a gtx 660 (1 monitor would display PFD and ND, The other would display the ECAM1/2 and any other view and the third would house the FMS).

I have read every where the only solution the developers come up with is separating 3D VC views to achieve this. This is seriously a huge performance killer and is not an acceptable solution. Has anyone got the PDF and ND (these two at least) working as a pop up?

thanks for any help in advance.

It still works. However, some paths and file names have changed. Cautionary note: If you change the panel.cfg as I will outline below then this is not supported by Aerosoft anymore as stated in previous posts. However, it works at least on my system...

Add the following lines to the panel.cfg:

----- In WINDOWS TITLES section ---------- (Remark: In my Windows Title section Window1 to Window20 are used by default because I use FS2Crew)

Window21=PFD

Window22=ND

Window23=ECAM1

Window24=ECAM2

------ At the end of the panel.cfg file -----------

[Window21]

BACKGROUND_COLOR=0,0,0

size_mm=340, 340

position=0

visible=1

ident=oac_pfd

gauge00=../SimObjects/Airplanes/Aerosoft Airbus A320_A321 Base/Panel_Fallback/Displays!PFD, 0,0,340,340

[Window22]

BACKGROUND_COLOR=0,0,0

size_mm=340, 340

position=0

visible=1

ident=oac_nd

gauge00=../SimObjects/Airplanes/Aerosoft Airbus A320_A321 Base/Panel_Fallback/ND/AB_ND_GDI!AB_ND_Gauge, 0,0,340, 340

[Window23]

BACKGROUND_COLOR=0,0,0

size_mm=340, 340

position=0

visible=1

ident=oac_ecam1

gauge00=../SimObjects/Airplanes/Aerosoft Airbus A320_A321 Base/Panel_Fallback/Airbus_ECAMD2D!AB_ECAMU, 0,0,340,340

[Window24]

BACKGROUND_COLOR=0,0,0

size_mm=340, 340

position=0

visible=1

ident=oac_ecam2

gauge00=../SimObjects/Airplanes/Aerosoft Airbus A320_A321 Base/Panel_Fallback/Airbus_ECAMD2D!AB_ECAML ,0,0,340,340

The final step is to prevent the ND in the VC to load (because dual NDs will not work). To do this comment out the following line in the Vcockpit01 section:

//gauge39=../SimObjects/Airplanes/Aerosoft Airbus A320_A321 Base/Panel_Fallback/ND/AB_ND_GDI!AB_ND_Gauge, 344,5,340,340

Optionally, you can also comment out the PFD and/or the ECAMS in the Vcockpit01 section if you only want to use the 2D pop-ups. This will also save FPS.

One final remark: This is the tweak for the A320/321. If you want to use it for the A318/A319 you have to change the filepaths accordingly.

Hope this helps

PS: The ND cannot be resized!

PPS: When loading the aircraft with the commented out gauge39 line you will observe some strange flickering of some lights in the cockpit. Once you load the ND this will stop. I usually start the flight, start the 2D panels, undock them and then save the flight. Then I reload the saved flight (with the undocked 2D panels) and everything works fine right from the start. But I guess this only works in Prepar3D v2.4...

I could have swore i chnged the file path since i got the PFD working. I also commented out all of the gauges. As soon as i am done with my flight i will try it and report back. Using only 3 monitors is like using one for me. Thanks for your help!

FFM777,

It worked this time. I had the same exact file paths as provided and commented out the gauges in VC mode. however the only thing i did differently this time was put the new windows at the bottom of the panel.cfg file. The first time i put them under the last window. They are working now so thank you very much!

Thanks! It is working, but just as mentioned the ND is not really big... The problem for me is, as soon as I set the instrument to another screen, it gets stuck/freezes. So it is still not usable, when you put the gauge back on your main fsx screen it starts working again.

Hey Guys!

I don't know whether you are trying this in windowed mode or full screen, but it will only work in windowed mode with undocking the displays and moving them to the other monitor. I got this working (see my panel.cfg) generally with no freezes. But sometimes (randomly) the ND freezes, and it freezes the whole simulator. Not completely, the FPS goes to 0.5, but it's uncontrollable. It did this on the ground and during flight, in this second case generally around 2 nm before intersections. If I close the ND window (the gauge is commented in panel.cfg) the issue is gone. I have hotfix 1.21d installed.

Do you have any idea for this?

PS:So it does work, just follow the 4 monitors thread or my panel.cfg.
