Autopilot / Auto Thrust behavior V1.21

Hey Folks !

I have just tested out the new version (1.21) and I would like to report a few things about the autopilot and auto thrust behaviors.

I have made a flight between Geneva and Nice with an A319. The departure was out of runway 05 with the SID BALSI6N and the arrival was PERUS6R with an ILS approach on runway 04L (MUS transition).

On one hand, I have seen some improvements, e.g no more engine oscillations when reaching cruising level/altitude selected/altitude constraint (Good job on that !!), but on the other hand I still find the pitch control AND the autothrust behaviors to be aggressive :

- At the ToD, the thrust setting goes from approx 90% N1 to IDLE and the rate of descent from 0 to -1000ft in less than a second !

- When descending, I noticed that the speed needs to differ from more than around 10knots before the autothrust starts to correct the deviation. Shouldn't the autothrust start correcting a bit sooner ?

- When reaching an altitude constraint, e.g being AT FL120 at a certain waypoint, the airplane starts leveling off a bit before the waypoint and and the thrust setting goes from IDLE to the required thrust setting veeery too quickly. Then the plane starts the descent again after passing the waypoint and the overall result is not very smooth.

- The autothrust has a lot of trouble to maintain a selected speed. e.g if I select 180 knots, the speed will vary between 175 or more and 185 or more before stabilising. I think the reason is that the power setting corrections are too abrupt.

Voilà, that's about everything I noticed. I am pretty sure Aerosoft is working on most of those issues, but I wanted to share my own observations just in case a few things haven't been noticed before :)

And one little question : Is it normal that the maximum bank angle is 30° ? I know that on the Boeing 737NG most SOPs say to limit the bank angle to 25° so that would be cool if somebody can confirm that :)

Cheers !

Sam

PS : I had ASNext running, no turbulence during the whole flight, the winds were okay (maximum of around 40knots during cruise). I took off with 156 passengers, about 2 tons of cargo and 4.9 tons of fuel.

Hi FreaK,

If you're in managed mode during the descent, and on path, you'll see that on the FMA you'll see Idle ( Engine are going idle ) and the A/C is in pitch mode, on the Speed tape you'll see two magenta " arrow", for example if the target speed is 260kts you upper arrow will be 270 and the lower arrow will be 250, so the speed of the aircraft can chnage up to -+ 10 kts from the target speed, ie to save fuel as the aircraft will only pitch up or down to maintain the descent path without the need of thrust. However if the speed decrease and go lower than the lower arrow, then thrust will increase as long as the speed is not with in target speed +- 10Kts ( namely if the speed is not within the 2 magenta " arrow". I can't remember when will trust will increase if it's lower arrow speed -5 or 10 kts, though.

Regarding your Bank Angle question :

the mlaximum bank angle in manual is +-67° ( sidestick pressure required though, if not bank angle will return to +- 33°), with AP, on the maximul Bank angle is -+33°

Hey,

Thanks for your answer. Yes the T/D is calculated to perform a descent at IDLE thrust, however I didn't know the real airplane was letting the speed differ from 10knots.That would explain my second observation then. For the rest, I am not quite sure the real aircraft does the same thing :)

Merry christmas !
