Don#t know what you mean by "paintkit for airlines" there was and is only one paintkit available in your shopaccount. And this is meant to make your own paints if you have the knowledge how to do.

The paintkits that are available from your account have ( in each variation / engine type ) certain airlines included , this helps you to see what goes where and create your own livery .

When opening the paintkit with your paint programme , you only have to open the group named " Livery Specific paint - .... " and switch off the layers containing the painted livery . This is also where you add / create the layers of your paint .

With the A318 / 319 paintkits you will have to switch of some layers in the " Reflections " group as well . The same applies to the " Specular " textures ( marked with an " S " ) as well .

If you open a paint made by Aerosoft with DXTBmp ( google it , if you don't already have it ) , you will find that most textures are saved as DDS DXT5 . The STABIS_L texture can be either DXT1 or DXT3 , the only difference is the size and is the night textures for the tailfin . The VC textures are saved as DDS DXT1 .

You will have to be more specific than that .

Any layers that are " hidden / switched off " are not visible as they are not needed for a particular paint .

The Reflections group and Specular textures have to be checked for the A318 / 319 versions as they may contain " painted " layers too . These will be visible when in the sim under certain lighting conditions .

I'm trying to export a livery for the A321, but I've noticed stock liveries are a bit brighter than what I've exported, plus some stuff such as reflections are hidden - is there documentation on this?

As I wrote in my previous post , you have to be more specific .

The first thing to know is which paint programme you are using . The paintkit is primarily made for users of PaintShop ( and yes it does work with other programmes but to a lesser degree as you lose certain functions ) .

The paintkits for the A320 / 321 are basically the same as when they were made for the AirbusX ( I personally haven't noticed any changes - except when the NEO version was added ) and as there are more than 1000 repaints available here that is not where the " problem " lies .

That your paints may appear darker may have to do with your settings , either in the paintkit or the sim . Try " switching off " the Dirt layers , reducing the OPACITY or changing the way the group is shown ( NORMAL / MULTIPLY etc ) .

The only real advice that can be given is PRACTICE , PRATICE , PRACTICE , that is the only way you will learn to paint the Airbus and I can assure you , you can't break anything if the paint is no good , just start again .

For myself I created entries in the aircraft.cfg for TEST versions of each type ( 8 in total ) named TEST 1 through 8 , containing an all white aircraft . With each TEST folder made a copy by right clicking chosing COPY , moving to an empty space on the screen , right clicking again and chosing PASTE . This ensures having the original test textures to hand . Any paint work is placed in the map texture.TEST ? and can then be viewed in the sim . When you are finished you then create a folder and cfg entry for your paint .

Other painters will no doubt have their own methods when painting and possibly easier than mine .

As I do not use or have Paint.net I cannot advise you on anything else .

There are however FREE paint programmes available that will offer more functionality than Paint.net which is rather basic ( compared to others ) .

Google Adobe PhotoSop CS2 as there is a FREE version available with registration code from Adobe itself , or GIMP to name a couple .

As for the groups in the paintkit , they are there to keep you from going insane looking for a specific layer , as not all have a name that helps to identify what it is , so YES , they are functional .

OK, I've managed to get hold of Photoshop. Now I see that there are some extra bits to the layer groups as effects are being applied through the program.

Thanks for the help anyway!
