Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition. (Compatibility?)

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have a question, Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition will launch on December 18, :

Dovetail Games, the multi award-winning developer and publisher of the Train Simulator series and Dovetail Games Fishing, today gave flight sim fans a lift for the holiday season with the announcement that Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition will launch on December 18 at a spectacular introductory price.

Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition delivers an authentically accurate aerial experience for simulation enthusiasts and those with a passion for all things flight. Pilots can climb into the cockpits of over twenty aircraft, from commercial and fighter jets to single-engine private planes and helicopters. More than 80 missions will test players in a variety of ways, including search and rescue challenges, test pilot scenarios, races and more. The game features updated multiplayer functionality, Windows 8.1 support and over 24,000 airports, delivering a beautiful, connected world and vast horizon begging to be explored.
First released in 2006, Microsoft Flight Simulator X’s arrival on Steam marks the first exciting steps in the global licensing deal between Dovetail Games and Microsoft announced earlier this year. In addition to distributing Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition, Dovetail Games is also working on its own original titles based on Microsoft’s flight technology, carrying on nearly three decades of tradition established by this award-winning franchise. Dovetail Games and partners will also be launching a range of add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition on Steam in the New Year.
Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition will be available on Windows PC via Steam on December 18. This title is rated E (Everyone) by the ESRB.

My question is, the Airbus 318/219 and 320/321 will be compatible with the new Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition?

  • Aerosoft

At this moment nobody knows. We do not expect any problems as we handle the STEAM release of simulators like OMSI and X-Plane and make 100% sure it's fully compatible with the add-ons from us and all other companies. If Dovetails would do it any different it would be very strange.

Hi Mathijs :)

Will the Airbus series packages purchasable on steam as DLCs for FSX:Steam Edition?

Thanks

Well the Airbus bundles install just fine, since the installer seems to be looking for FSX and finds it even for the Steam version. That said, I uninstalled my old non-Steam FSX version and started over with the FSX Steam version, with nothing installed except the Airbus bundle.

I ran into these issues:

  • MCDU 2 does not work for the Checklist option at all, so I don't get my pilots to interact with each other; that option is grayed out.
  • ECAM screens are not working, even though the systems are on and the brightness is turned up.
  • Other MCDU 2 options are grayed out as well -- see screenshot attached.

Not sure if that Steam related or not, but I thought I'd share anyway.

Looks like a simconnect issue. If you'd be using the non Steam version of FSX I'd suggest to reinstall SP2. With the Steam version however we have no idea if that is included in the installer or what to do. Best you'll contact Dovetailgames about this.

At this moment right now the Steam version of FSX is not supported by any of our addons, so we can't really help you with this, sorry.

Well, seems as if the Steam Edition is the only way forward, as that's being actively supported by Dovetail. Their changelog isn't the greatest, however, they improved some of the nagging issues with the DVD version. So I expect a lot more from them down the line to make FSX better.

FYI - FSX on Steam comes with SP1, SP2 preinstalled.

From the developers: "Steam Edition contains everything that has been officially released for FSX:

- Flight Simulator X: Deluxe Edition
- Acceleration expansion pack
- and the latest service pack:

In the meantime, I don't want to go back to the old and (more) bugged FSX version and kinda expect Aerosoft to look at these disconnect issues.

Works with OMSI2, as well. :)

Looks like a simconnect issue.

That was the case. I looked at the Steam FSX directory and reinstalled simconnect.msi -- and now things seem to work. Thanks for the pointer. :)

Again, the Steam FSX version is a lot smoother already thanks to some improvement on Dovetail's end. Looking forward to more improvements/fixes down the line -- and I cannot wait for the Airbus 330.

FYI - on the Steam forums there were many people with similar issues, and many issues were solved by running the "Steam\SteamApps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces\FSX-XPACK\SimConnect.msi" file after mods were installed. :)

With all due respect for those who are now asking for compatibility issues with FSX Steam, please remember that developers are making a hard effort for offering products compatible with new platforms like P3D or X-Plane. It's practically impossible to keep up with the pace of the changes we´re seeing with different FS platforms these days. They will instead be focusing their efforts (my guess) on the most suitable and promising platforms like I would say P3Dv2 and its future 64-bit version.

´Thank you so much for this! I was worried I just wasted 15€ (+5€) but everything's working fine now :)

Hi all,

I have tried several Aerosoft products, none will work except the F16.

Have tried the above fixes.

I can't activate the product

Thank you in advance.

Why would you want to activate a product that explicitly says "Activation not required" on your screen?
