Question about manual flight

My understanding is that in manual flight (which I define as Autothrottle in CL, AP off, Sidestick control), when you push on the side stick the aircraft will roll and when you let go it will continue to hold the correct bank angle until you use the side stick to change it. Same goes for climb and descent. You push to the required pitch and then let go (re-center) and the aircraft computers will hold the pitch.

Is this the correct behaviour? If so I cannot get it to work with Version 1.1 of Airbus, particularly the pitch control.

Second question, is the behaviour the same if the AThr is off ?

thanks,

Very very basically your understanding is correct. To make it precise it will hold G-Load and not pitch. This would be to complex to explain here though.

Note that it limits the bankangle and pitch automatically. If you give more than 30° bank it will go back to 30° if you release the sidestick.

Emi, thanks for the explanation. Only problem is that I cannot get pitch to work. Is this a result of my yoke? I pull the yoke and hold a climb of 1000 fpm then let go, the plane will then climb and contiue to climb. Same with pitch down, hold -1000 fpm and let go to center yoke and the pitch comes up and keeps climbing to over 6000fpm. Currently using CH Products Yoke (which is recognize not an Airbus sidestick). I have a joystick I will hook up later to try out. Roll is working correctly.

Does the centerposition of the yoke work properly? If the centerposition does not work and your axis sends a signal when it is centered the Airbus will continue moving.

But when you push/pull the stick and let go the aircraft will maintain the attitude (not altitude) until you give a level off command.

Unless the yoke is not calibrated correctly and gives an up/down command when the hardware is in the center position.

Don't use a yoke to fly airbus, it will confuse your moves. I have a yoke too but only use it for Boeing, had to buy a joystick to fly Airbus and it makes things easier. Hand flying with Airbus is very comfortable as it auto pitches for you, I did a full flight from Paris to Amsterdam yesterday without autopilot involved feeling like a boss lol
