newbie reading the OFP

Recommended Posts

I've seen the video on the main website that goes through some of the OFP document, but does anyone know of any other resources that could explain more about how to properly read the flight plan document ?

Hi,

I'll try to explain some of the items:

1)fuel adjustment done after few flights if it differs from the aircraft consumption that you found out and the consumption that has been entered by the person who did the template.

2) grand circle distance. In nautical miles.

3) flight plan distance.

4) air distance.

5) average wind component: head 45 knots.

6) underload in pounds (lbs) you can have all the weights in kg or lbs if you wish.

7) zero fuel weight (mass would be more appropriate) limitation.

8) QNH 1012 Hpa Wind 170° 12 Knots.

Engine out, at a distance of 25 nautical miles from the DME sierra yankee frequency 112,1 Mhz enter hold (155° inbound right turn).

9) fuel planned for the trip.

reserve 10%.

fix reserve 30 minutes.

Minimum take off fuel (sum of the 4 above figures)

Extra fuel (if needed)

Taxi fuel

Block fuel (sum take off fuel + taxi fuel)

10) capacity of the fuel tank(s) 325955 lbs / You could add up an extra quantity of fuel of a maximum of 137787 lbs but you are limited by the landing weight. If you increase your planned take off weight by 5000 lbs you would have an extra consumption for your trip of 125 lbs of fuel per each 5000 lbs. If you decrease your take off weight you would decrease your fuel consumption 120 lbs of fuel per each 5000 lbs. If you fly 2000 ft lower than your planned altitude, you would use an extra 27 lbs of fuel / estimated en route time 1 hour 5 minutes. Climb speed 250 knots up to FL 100, 310 knots above FL 100 until you reach the mach of 0.84. Descent mach 0.84, then 310 knots and 250 knots below FL 100.

Time when you release the brakes at your gate .............. Take off planned at 15 hours 55 minutes actual take off time ..............

Time when you set your parking brake at your gate ....................... Landing time planned at 17 hours 00 minutes actual landing time .................

11) wind component (head or tail) Difference of fuel between your different alternates based on the first one you entered.

I could have missed few things so if someone wishes to add something.

Regards,

JP
