TheTallGuy 8
Hi, everyone! I'm loving this new 'Bus. A huge thanks to Aerosoft for making such an over-the-top product. Since I run FSX on my laptop, I find the PFD and ND to be a bit too small for me within the standard view. And for some reason there isn't a custom camera provided that allows me to see them in a popup window. So I have created a custom camera view that you can place into your aircraft.cfg file to add this view. (See the attached screen shot to see what it looks like.) You will need to add it to the file in each variant model you fly -- three in all if you want to use it across the 318 and both 319s. The specific lines are at the bottom of this post. Here's what to do with them. 1. First, copy and paste the lines into a separate text file. You should do this because everytime Aerosoft releases a new version of the Bus, they will overwrite all the files you are about to change, and you will need to make the changes again. Also, make sure you save this file somewhere other than an Aerosoft folder -- I discovered the hard way that Aerosoft totally deletes the contents of the folders before installing new versions. Oops. Place this file in your Documents directory, or some other safe place. 2. MAKE COPIES OF EACH "AIRCRAFT.CFG" FILE BEFORE YOU CHANGE THEM! It beats having to re-install the Bus and all your liveries if you make a mistake. I call mine "aircraft-orig.cfg". 3. In a good text editor, edit the file "C:\fsx\SimObjects\Airplanes\Aerosoft Airbus A319 CFM\aircraft.cfg". Scroll down about 3/4s of the way to the bottom. Look for this line: // ------------ External Camera Defintitions ------------------- Position the cursor ABOVE this line. 3b. Since this post will be around for a long time and the Bus might change, scroll up and check that the last "cameradefinition" above this line is numbered "035", like so: [CAMERADEFINITION.035] If it isn't, then you'll need to modify the new lines to be one more than whatever that number is. (Today, it's "036".) 4. Paste in the new text in the blank space above the line you found in step 3, above. It will define a "CAMERADEFINITION.036". 5. Save the aircraft.cfg file. (Before you save, make sure you've made a backup! Trust me here. ) 6. Repeat this process for the other aircraft.cfg files. 7. Start FSX and test the popup. Load the 319 CFM, and choose Views > New View > Cockpit > PFD and ND. If you're not seeing it, you probably did something wrong when you pasted it in. Tip: After opening the new popup, be sure to click back in the main window before changing views. I always forget and then need to get the PFD view back by clicking in the popup window and then right-clicking to re-select the view. Sigh. OK, without further ado, here are the lines for the new camera definition: // Custom PFD and ND popup [CAMERADEFINITION.036] Title = "PFD and ND" Guid = {542d374f-66e2-40e6-8063-b52ca27c550e} Origin = Virtual Cockpit MomentumEffect = No SnapPbhAdjust = None SnapPbhReturn = False PanPbhAdjust = None PanPbhReturn = False Track = None ShowAxis = No AllowZoom = False InitialZoom = 1.1 SmoothZoomTime = 0 ZoomPanScalar = 0 ShowWeather = Yes XyzAdjust = True ShowLensFlare = True Category = Cockpit PitchPanRate = 0 HeadingPanRate = 0 InitialXyz = 0.10, -0.26, 0.16 InitialPbh = 14.5, -0, 0 //Hotkeyselect = 1 Happy simming! calzoom 60
If only a click-spot on the ND / PFD could be added instead of scrolling through the views - then this would be perfect!
TheTallGuy 8
Sorry to take so long to get back. I thought I would receive notifications when I "followed" this topic, but that doesn't seem to be happening. Perhaps it's a spam folder thing. @kazika2009: I might try to work on this, though it's incredibly time-consuming so it's not something I'm going to do right away. Basically, I created the view via trial-and-error, increasing and decreasing the positions and zoom a bit at a time to hone the view. Since it's done by customizing the config files, I had to reload the plane after every change. I must have gone through about 40 reloads to get the current view to where it now is. Since ECAMs 1 and 2 are not side-by-side, it's probably even more work. Sigh. It would be great if there was a utility to do this quickly... @calzoom: YES! Perhaps if we all ask Mathijs really, really nicely.

B737ng 1
Hello Michael, that's a great idea for creating a pfd & nd pop-up. Thank you. Did you recognize any impact on the frames? If only a click-spot on the ND / PFD could be added instead of scrolling through the views - then this would be perfect! This would be the high-end solution and very very useful. Best regards, Jens
TheTallGuy 8
@B737ng: I haven't noticed any impact, but now that you mention it I will look more carefully next time I fly. Michael
TheTallGuy 8
Actually, there IS a small drop in frames. If you keep the popup open while on the ground, you see it more. In the air, I don't really notice it.
