By that time, FSX will be forgotten, P3D2 will be history and P3D4 will rule, but that will be 64 bit and supposedly unable to digest all present sceneries. I already regret I spent money for something which will remain half Austria. I once had the hope to get a closed VFR enabled Photoscenery based area with the new AS VFR Germany, Austria HD and the still usable Switzerland Pro. And I would well be willing to pay for that. The problem is that in some countries aerial images are extremly expensive for commercial use and so in Austria. It took quite a while to find a solution to make Austria East HD possible at all. And I guess the same problem comes up again with Austria West. And if asolution is not in sight, starting such a project makes no sense. And upcoming very good landclass addons, which make it also possible to deliver different seasons, make IMHO photosceneries more and more obsolete. But despite of this I also would appreciate a sign of presence of the developer, especially regading the open issues. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
pmb 139 Posted September 20, 2014 Share Posted September 20, 2014 Otto, as much as I enjoy ORBX scenery, I don't see the present state of Global/OpenLC/Mesh/Vector as a substitute for good photoscenery. A combination of landclass with photo and accurately designed cities as it's done in ORBX Regions like NCA or PNW would certainly do, but there are no signs ORBX has any plans to cover the named areas. I can imagine they're expecting *others* previously active in that area would provide Photoscenery and got frustrated competing - like in the UK. I prepared to live with a half-baked Germany for some time and just fly in some more appealing regions elsewhere in the world. I'll be very disappointed if the western section isn't produced because I think the advertising clearly indicates that the project is for the entire country. I will quote from Aerosoft's current advert: This add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator X and Prepar3D allows you to experience Austria in incredible detail – fly over a world that seems like the real thing. The first part of AUSTRIA Professional HD showcases all characteristic features that made the country famous. And to be honest, if there was a likelyhood only half the job would be done it would have been better for the western section only to be produced as at least it would be contiguous to existing German and Swiss photoscenery areas (apologies to those who live in the eastern half of Austria!) Still, I understand the pressures developers are under between the cost of the photographic data and the unpredictability of demand. Almost 3 weeks and no answer. You actually have the weekly special offering Austria HD East, maybe customer should be warned about the almost certain cancelation of the West part. With that said, I can completely understand the cost of imagery as being a significant road block ... sometime ago (2 years or so ago) I inquired with companies that sell imagery (Sat and Aerial at various qualities/resolution for Greenland) and the cost to obtain (with right to sell a product based on it) even the lowest resolution (single season color matched) was in order of magnitudes higher than even the most optimistic sales numbers I could project (don't think many people would pay over $1000 for single section of a country - assuming I could sell 40,000 units).  It was certainly an eye opener for me. He is a 1 man show and to create such a hughe area take time, also its just a part time job for him. So he is on this addon, but there are no news/ no release dates. As the developer is not responding to any customer enquiries it is much appreciated that at least the publisher steps in.
