Need More Distance To Land

Recommended Posts

Quick question - when I plug in a route from KMKE to KORD (short flight) it reads DCT OBK DCT - I assume DCT reads as direct. When I punch into the flight planner the legs page shows the waypoints and all is fine - except that the turn to the runway is within 10miles of the airport and the plane needs more time to set up for landing. PFPX does not give me a star to use, but is this a case where you want to use a transition/star to be able to have more distance for the plane to set up for landing.....any help would be appreciated.

Also PFPX does not show approaches. I'm not familiar with KORD approaches but I would think that a look in the airport charts would be helpful... and with that said there's no problem beeing in landing configuration before the final turn if the final approach leg is short.

Use this link for airport charts - http://www.fltplan.com/AwMainToApproachPlates.exe?CRN10=1&CARRYUNAME=PILOT&MODE=SEARCH&end=end.

Michael,

It's more or less US only. However, here is another link with real world flightplans (some are a bit aged, I think). It's free but requires registration. However, they don't want to be bothered with PFPX generated plans. :glare_s:

This is such a short flight I would only use PFPX for the fuel required plus maybe a 1000 lbs (depending upon the plane) because this is not going to be a direct KMKE,OBK,KORD flight. You will probably get a MITCHEL 2 SID out of KMKE with vectors to OBK if landing east at KORD and the vectors to the approach. If landing to the west you will probably get vectors direct to the runway approach bypassing OBK all together.
