Hey guys,

i am now at a point where i am out of ideas so i thought i'll ask if someone else has any suggestions.

I am using FSX since the very beginning when it was released and never had any problems with OOM errors despite having hundreds of addons around the world but a few months ago it started.

3 weeks ago it was at a point where it happened on almost every flight so i decided its time to completely remove FSX and all addons (which alone took about a day just to uninstall everything) and start with a completely fresh FSX.

Now i have FSX installed again with FS Global Ultimate, FTX Global & Vector & openLC, MyTraffic, REX4, ASN, Airbus X Extended, night Environment Greece, Germany & British Isles and 6 airports, Oslo, Bergen, Athens, Thessaloniki, Kos, Skiathos.

All Night Environments have the Medium (2) density active.

My fsx.cfg only has the highmemfix = 1 added.

My settings really arent that high....autogen = normal, detail radius = low. Traffic density 18%, no road traffic.

In ASN i have 5 cloud layers, Maximum cloud draw distance 80. enhanced overcast is not active.

So as you see I am really not maxing out any settings.

Now i'm wondering why i still keep getting OOM errors. I monitored my VAS usage with process explorer.

In All further situations i was using Airbus X Extended. In LGTS (even set the Lite 2 option in the City configurator) i got an OOM error 2 times now when i was on approach. I noticed that when i start a flight at LGTS VAS usage is around 3.1 GB after flying 2 or 3 touch and goes und Taxi back to the Terminal it raises to around 3.7-3.8GB

Then i moved to Bergen....everything seemed ok there...even after a lot of flying around the max value there is 3.1! In Oslo its also around the same value. LGAV goes up to around 3.5GB!

Now i tried departing from DEFAULT EGLL.... directly after loading the flight VAS usage is around 3.3GB!! After departure and about 1-2 minutes flying it reached 3.9 and triggered another OOM error.

To sum it up. From my last 5 flights with the above mentioned settings 4 did not arrive.

1 even crashed enroute from EDDF to LGKO.

I really cant lower the sliders much more without ruining even the little remaining immersion.

However to me this behavior of FSX doesnt look normal. My problem is that i have no idea what could be causing this. I definately dont have any addons other than the above mentioned installed at the moment.

It becomes really frustrating and sadly after 15 years with FS begins to turn me away from it after trying to get it back to a stabile state for several months now.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

My system is a i7 4770k @ 4.4Ghz, GTX770 Jetstream 4GB, 32GB RAM

FSX is on the D drive. (Not in the default location)

Simply put, with all you have installed I am not at all surprised you are running out of memory. I do not think there is anything wrong (assuming you are using a 64 bit OS), but that you are just asking too much from a 32 bit application.

Thanks for taking the time to reply on my question.

Indeed i'm on windows 8.1 64Bit.

Oh really i didnt expect that to be too much already since most stuff was just global texture replacement. Texture Max load is set to 1024.

So what you are saying is that i either have to get rid of ASN, FTX ground textures or AI Traffic in order to be able to fly again a complete flight?

Or alternatively just fly default aircraft?

I see FSX sadly has that limitation but i was thinking that a lot of people would fly stuff like the PMDG NGX, 777 or Airbus X in FTX Global and using ASN with some 18% AI Traffic?

Thats what led me to believe that something had to be wrong on my system.

Well since i cannot lower the sliders much further my only Choice is to get rid of some stuff.

So more or less i have to stop buying addons now since they get more and more complex (which is great) but this makes them unusable with other nice addons? Whats the point of seeing just nice surrounding at the airport but then see boring default fsx ground or just clear skies without any weather during all the remainder of the flight in order to not get OOM errors.

PS. I justed tested ENVA and VAS usage is just around 2.3 GB there with the AXE and all mentioned Addons.

All developers will need to reduce their memory use even it is means reducing features.

Yeah indeed. Well lets hope one day we get a 64bit sim. Might first try to disable the night environment sceneries to see if this helps. They look great but obviously i only see them at night so disable them wouldnt hurt as much as removing FTX or ASN.

Try SceneryConfigEditor , http://sourceforge.net/projects/fs-sceditor/ sort all your scenery into Countries or some other organisational method and disable everything that you won't need during a particular flight. Only fly with the scenery you need.

Rob.

Thank you for the link Rob. I will try this now ;)

P3D V2.2 is better at memory management btw.

Thanks for this tip Mathijs. Actually now would be a good moment to move on to P3Dv2. I have purchased it a few Months ago but never really used it since i had all my addons in FSX but now that i have uninstalled everything it is the perfect moment to move on. Especially if it handles memory better than FSX.

You'll love it. V2.3 is not far off and that adds even more goodies. So nice to have a platform that is actually in development.
