VA's and piracy

Recommended Posts

I find it hard to believe that VA's are still involved so often with piracy. But yet they are. Just today I found out about this nice bunch of pirates in France. World Pilotes Alliance. They had just about the whole Navigraph set online, charts and all. They also had some of our software. Of course after I contacted them they hurried to remove the files but we got the screenshots, downloaded all files and got the ftp logs (they were not very good at It obviously as it was all publicly available). Of course I informed our friends at Navigraph, they will take their own actions.

If you are a member of this VA I suggest you leave them immediately and join a VA that has higher moral standards.

If you like another read about a related topic I suggest this, probably blow your mind: http://asn.aerosoft.com/?page_id=28060

Les VA et le piratage
Je trouve difficile de croire que des VA sont encore si souvent impliquées dans le piratage. Mais pourtant, elles le sont. Aujourd’hui même, j’ai découvert en France une belle brochette de pirates. World Pilote Alliance.

I hope they`ll get a hard punishment. I my opinion you should contact the police about this. I hate people doing things like that!!!!

Good post. If you find more like this please name and shame them. Perhaps all we simmers who pay for our gear can email the offenders and express our opinions to them...nicely of course.

The World Pilot Alliance also have a FB page so you could contact them there too.

Mathijs,

Thank you for your excellent post and for reporting to us. Indeed we also took action and sure enough, the files disappeared soon after.

Today, two other VA's with the same moral standards were detected.

1) Loucos Por FS

...further down... :

Saved above screenshots while e-mailing them, and eventually the whole site was disabled and a reply gotten: "Hello, All files were removed from the Website and MEGA, sorry for the big mistake not occurred again". Mistake..? Indeed.

2) DLH Virtual

You would think that a Virtual Airline that uses Lufthansa's logo as their website icon (favicon), and hence claim to be a virtual counterpart to a real airline, would play fair game.

Think again. I have yet to hear back from their CEO after confronting him with this screenshot. (Before sending screenshot he just denied it.)

I second Mathijs comment about what to do if you belong to either of these VAs.

Regards,

Stephen

And here's the reply from the DLH Virtual CEO:

I got in contact with our system admin and had a very intensive chat with him. I sincerely apologise for distributing your pristine software on my site. I have now taken immediate action and removed all of your FMS data from our site and I have also asked all pilots that have downloaded them to uninstall the data.

The screenshot was inevitably hard to deny. Don't know what is worse, VAs that pirate data and lie about it, or VAs that are totally ignorant about what is on their servers.

Thats very interesting. This VA is member of our VA alliance. We do not tolerate when our member VAs are involved in illegal activity. I have reported this to our alliance CEO as well and we will have to decide what actions we will take.

Great! I know piracy is not a thing we can prevent totally. but as I said before, we sponsor VA's and we believe they are an intergral part of our hobby. But I'll be damned if I accept them to allow institutional piracy.

Hello All, i just got the heads up of this post by the Staff.

as i clearly see that the VA used contend thats pirated we will take clear actions to them as we do not allow this as stated in our minimum requirements.

we put our efforts to Support developers in Fighting piracy so they can continue to bring great new stuff into the FS world

To Stephen:

My apologies, this indeed should never have appeared. The file has been deleted.

Stijn

File? Hopefully all files.

But anyway, we will monitor it.
