descent ascent constant speed & rate problem

Hi all,

I have a flying problem and I hope somebody can help me.

Problem is this: When I climb or descend the twotter I want to have a constant IAS and a constant rate of descend/ascend.

I do this: When I want to descend,

1. reduce torque pressure e.g. 40 to 30,

2. Pitch down to abt 1000 ft/min vertical speed.

3 When speed settles, adjust trim so yoke can go back in neutral position.

BUT IAS and vert speed don't stay constant. So it's very difficult FOR ME to get a stabilzed approach.

Maybe I am doing something wrong. Pease help this newbie twotter pilot. Thanks!!

You cannot ahve both a cosnatnt IAS and verticalspeed.

The Twin Otter does not have autothrottle, this means that when IAS Hold is engaged, then the autopilot adjusts the speed by increasin/decreasing pitch.

When enggaged while trimmed for the wanted IAS, pitch will stabilise quite quickly, but as You climb or descend and get into less/more dense air, Your vertical speed will surely change.

Maybe You confuses IAS with the autothrottles of larger airlinser where You can define both a set speed as well as vertical speed.

thanks for the reply.

But I wasn't talking about autopilot flying. My question was on hand flying. When doing that I can't get a stabilized descent.

I want to have the ability to fly by hand, because if you are flying vfr to small airstrips using the autopilot isn't allways an option.

Sorry I made myself insufficientlly clear.

I hope you or somebody else (maybe RL pilot) can help me.
