Is anyone using rex weather both historic and real time?

Recommended Posts

Is anyone using rex weather both historic and real time? i cannot get PFPX to read the REX live or Rex historic weather. I have REX on another computer. I have set the REX path to the other computer metar I have network/computer name/hard drivename/Real Environment Xtreme Essential/MetarXML. In that folder are files that read 20120530_00z.xml, 20120530_04z.xml, 20120530_06z.xml,20120530_16z.xml, 20120530_18z.xml, 20120530_20z.xml. At the bottom of the map where it show online etc., it shows REX but will not load the weather. Any idea's on what I am doing wrong?

Thanks,

Lynn

I just changed my weather to REX and PFPX updated the weather right away. I have just changed back to online and it updated again immediately. Make sure that your path to rex weather.xml has been saved, In my case it is "D:\REX Essential Plus\MetarXML". I think that your problem is the "naming" convention you are using. The file should be named "metar_report" in order to be used by PFPX. I have been sucessful using this method.

To use historic i have the historic downloads in another folder saved and renamed to date, To use them I just rename and copy the xml file back to the metarxml folder, then tell PFPX to use REX weather.

P.S.

Now that I've looked I see that even though I have rex 2 on my computer, I also have REX Essential Plus and that's the path that I have set in PFPX. REX 2 uses this naming method "20130913_02z" and REX Essential Plus uses "metar_report" Why are your REX Essential metar files named "20120530_00z.xml"? Mine is just "metar_report".

Hopefuly this information will help you get set up properly.

Good luck.

I have a long list of files like I listed in the folder but I also have the "metar_report" in the folder. I will eliminate the "20120530_00z.xml" files and see what happens. Thanks.

I have eliminated the "20120530_00z.xml" files and only have the "metar_report" in the file. That works, now a problem is that PFPX claims that the TAF reports are not available when they are available with REX. This is the online in PFPX:

I tried to attach my Metar_report.xml but I keep getting the message "error this upload failed". The file is 4046 KB.

All help is appreciated

Thanks

Hi Lynn,

since you're using PFPX's online weather, if those stations are at that time broadcasting their TAFs, then PFPX would be able to include them. I am sure that it is something basic that we are overlooking. Someone who knows PFPX on here will soon, hopefuly, step in with the answer. I will say that I am looking at TAFs for my current flight plan right now, so that function does work.

Also I can see TAF in my metar_report.xml file.

I just planned a quick flight KLAF KIND and got the following from PFPX online weather:

is this what you are looking for? Please bear in mind this was just a test not a fully planned dispatch.

What I was trying to say is that when I use PFPX online (WX: Online shows in the box at the bottom of the map) and I click on "Weather & NOTAMS", then the weather tab at the top. I get the TAF reports. When I am using REX as the weather for PFPX (WX:REX shows in the box at the bottom of the map) and I click on "Weather & NOTAMS", then the weather tab at the top. I don't get the TAF reports. It says [TAF NOT AVAILABLE] as is listed below:

KLAF/LAF (PURDUE UNIV, UNITED STATES)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KLAF 141354Z 17003KT 10SM CLR 12/07 A3021 RMK AO2 SLP231 T01220067

I agree I also get the TAF reports when WX: online is used that are like the ones in REX, but when REX is being used as the weather for PFPX. PFPX does not know about the TAF reports. Thank you for working with me on this. I really do appreciate your help in working this out.

Here's Active sky Look at the bottom right to see that in these first two I am using Active Sky.

Final observation is that at least on my computer I will have to wait for Christian on REX. I can't say what is happening anywhere else.

I know that it works perfectly with "online" and Active sky 2012. I think that I bought 1 or 2 other weather programs which

I no longer use. I also have OPUS which I always use, but that is a diff' setup. I even tried it with REX extreme 2.0.

I do get the weather with REX, just not TAFs. I have to manually trans code them to the FltPln.
