Wind Aloft Details - Compatible with PMDG 777

Recommended Posts

With the PMDG 777's ability to uplink wind aloft data for the flight, would it be possible for a new template which displayed the wind as per PMDG's Wind Data Request document.

I did a little tinkering with PFPX's flight plan templates, but all the wind data (that I could find) was displayed like this:

<&WindDataBlock_Begin><&NewPage> WIND INFORMATION - OBS <&WindPrognosis[18]> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <&WindData[0]> --------------------------------------------------------------------------------<&WindDataBlock_End>

This then displays an output like this:

Would it be at all possible to change it so the format met PMDG's requirement of this for it to work:

my suggestion would be to export the pfpx flight plan in fs format, load it into activesky and create the file that way, you would have the correct winds that the t7 is expecting to see. creating templates and so on will inevitably cause unforeseen issues

Then you need to ask PMDG to make their Tripple compatible to more formats or the developer of your weather addon to put the respective format out ;-)

Why does he need to do that? He can ask it here and suggest it. The developer can say that they cannot commit to it or consider it because [put explanation here] or can be silent and not say anything, and still get feedback that some users suggested it.

I agree that this would be nice feature, maybe export it in the same time as the flight plan in the appropriate directory. It adds value to the software. It might not be feasible, or a priority for the PFPX team, but definitely a very valuable feature for many of us,

I agree it would be a valuable addition to PFPX. The software becomes even more of a one-stop shop for pretty much everything needed to set up a flight. Why shouldn't it be feasible? Why make the user fiddle with multiple programs?

I would really love this feature! It would spare me for the time to load the very slow starting ActiveSky just to get the winds information that is already present in PFPX. I don't use AS for weather anymore.

It would definitely fall under the category of "nice to have". I have Active Sky 2012, but I'm only using it to create the current weather. I think the data provided by the PFPX server is more realistic.

PFPX is such a great program, that I'm sure the developers could figure out how to sent a .wx file to for the PMDG 777 to "request".

What if you haven't got Active Sky?

as I am not yet a user of the T7, i still do things the old fashioned way, one by one in the fmc! i can remember a few flights (esp long haul) ive done where programming the winds in have taken me longer than setting up the whole flight! as i quoted its definitely a "nice to have" feature, much the same as the shared cockpit function that is slowly becoming reality thanks to majestic. i do believe that it would be PMDG's responsibility to accept different formats of winds aloft data from popular sources and not really a PFPX feature that could be implemented. plus if you didnt have as2012 then you wouldnt be missing anything as that function is only available with that format (correct me if im wrong) would be good to hear what the PFPX dev's have to say on this

Hi all.

I use OpusFSX.

Developers issued an update few days ago allowing you to request wind data via FMC. You don't need to copy and paste anything. As soon as you import route into OpusFSX flight plan it converts wind and temps data to PMDG 777 format. Just request it via FMC and you will get wind/temps data for the whole route. I tried it and it works really nice. As far as I know OpusFSX is one of the best weather engine on a market. This is not just my opinion and I am not promoting it. Just sharing.

Thx

Hello,

First, I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thinks PFPX should look into this feature.

I use REX WX, and it suits my need well, I'm short of funds(I haven't even bought the T7 yet...), so I don't think I'll be able to buy OPUS or AS2012 anytime soon.

In this case, if PFPX adds the feature to upload wind onto the T7, it could be a lot of help for users like me!

Also, PFPX seems to have a lot more accurate upper wind data/forecast than most weather add-ons...

Just a thought.
