Flying in to Lukla

A tip to all those flying to Lukla:

Take off from Phaplu (the capital of the Solu district) . Runway is 02. After takeoff turn left to heading 360 to clear ridge; then turn to heading 040 climbing to 11000 feet; clear the next ridge and you will see Lukla straight ahead beyond a saddle in the third ridge; descend into the Dudh Koshi valley ( to around 10000 feet) keeping to the left as much as possible before turning final to Lukla (runway 06). Total flying time in the Twin Otter around eight minutes instead of the half-hour long flight from KTM.
