CaptainLHKLM 39
Hi guys, Just a quick touch-and-go question from me. P3D looks pretty enticing to me (an X-Plane user), especially for the wide-bodies. But does LM or Microsoft not really mind it being used with e.g. the Academic version, or just P3D in general? I can imagine that some of us are helping LM make an even better sim for the 'professionals', by using it. Thanks!
Aerosoft Aerosoft Team [Inactive Account] 51558 Posted May 28, 2018 Aerosoft Share Posted May 28, 2018 They do NOT mind. Lockheed even assists us actively and gives interviews to hobby sites.
CaptainLHKLM 39
Hi Mathijs! What does Microsoft think though? Just out of them developing ESP, do they monitor P3D? Thanks!
Aerosoft Aerosoft Team [Inactive Account] 51558 Posted June 6, 2018 Aerosoft Share Posted June 6, 2018 Microsoft is 100% out of the Flight Sim stuff. They only want to make some money on the rights (but with Dovetails stopping their FSW that has also stopped).
harrry 37
What about the FSX rights Dovetail have. Still selling well and money from DLC continues so I am sure Microsoft takes a cut of that.
Aerosoft Aerosoft Team [Inactive Account] 51558 Posted June 7, 2018 Aerosoft Share Posted June 7, 2018 Oh yeah, for sure. But after it selling extremely well I think sales will now slow down.
CaptainLHKLM 39
So why don't LM and Microsoft just make a deal so that it can be used for "Entertainment", seeing as Microsoft isn't even in the business anymore.
Aerosoft Aerosoft Team [Inactive Account] 51558 Posted June 11, 2018 Aerosoft Share Posted June 11, 2018 I think because Dovetails still holds that part of the license.
CaptainLHKLM 39
But surely Dovetail knows that most simmers in this hobby for the long run aren't going to use FSX Steam Edition... I just don't really know if P3D V4 is worth the investment at this point. I'd absolutely love some KLM long hauls (with FlyTampa's beautiful EHAM), but as I still go to school any money towards this hobby better be spent well; and also my PC is kinda old for P3D. I have an i7-4770, 16GB of DDR3 RAM and a GTX970. I feel that X-Plane might give me more for the components than P3D, or am I wrong? P3D feels a bit old? It's just the widebody fleet I miss... Aerosoft Aerosoft Team [Inactive Account] 51558 Posted June 11, 2018 Aerosoft Share Posted June 11, 2018 P3D and X-Plane are 'different' but if you want to update your sim P3D is by far the most obvious path for you. Tens of thousands of people have done it. You are not alone.
CaptainLHKLM 39
Yeah I mean I'm an X-Plane user right now, but for the long hauls I might as well add P3D.
CaptainLHKLM 39
@Mathijs KokI can buy both right now (had a birthday recently) but so you say LM really doesn't mind if I save myself the $140? It saves me a ton of money (140 is a huge amount for me as an under 18) Thanks!
Deputy Sheriffs Tom A320 4915 Posted July 17, 2018 Deputy Sheriffs Share Posted July 17, 2018 Why do you ask Mathijs to repeat what he clearly wrote a few posts up?
CaptainLHKLM 39
@Tom A320I guess I just want to be sure, definitely as I want to become a pilot; any legal problems would be a huge issue. I know LM doesn't care (well they do seem pretty strict when purchasing regarding EULAs), but I don't want any 3rd party to care.
Deputy Sheriffs Tom A320 4915 Posted July 17, 2018 Deputy Sheriffs Share Posted July 17, 2018 Well, but Aerosoft can't give you legal advice here. They can just relay to you what LM told them, and that's what Mathijs did. If you want/need to be 100% sure you need to ask LM, not Aerosoft. CaptainLHKLM 39
@Tom A320I've asked them when I used V3, all they did was link me to the EULA page. It's like they don't care, but they put up this front so they don't get into problems. But if they told Mathijs that then I'm about 5 minutes away from purchasing V4
Aerosoft Aerosoft Team [Inactive Account] 51558 Posted July 18, 2018 Aerosoft Share Posted July 18, 2018 The fantastic team that does P3D has been going to the simmers conventions, have given interviews to our hobby websites etc etc. I think that is clear enough that they love us to use it.
