Mace_RB 41
Some of you may be familiar with the movie "Catch Me If You Can" -- from about 15 years ago. It features several aircraft in some scenes, and I am trying to see if I'm right on these. This first scene is what almost has to be a DC-8 -- from about the 1:00 mark on... is that correct? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ow8mG8qutkw And then there is this scene, supposedly at the 60's era KMIA. At the 2:29 mark, you can see an aircraft taking off, and I *think* it is a 707 -- but can someone confirm? It's not a DC-8, correct? Too much sweep on the wings? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0Tzfi5iLwc
Developer Michael2 236 Posted April 21, 2018 Developer Share Posted April 21, 2018 In the scene where the protagonist is "dead heading", that is absolutely a DC-8 flight deck. Which is all wrong since it's a TWA flight and they didn't operate them. In the second scene, the aircraft taking off in the background is a 707. I can tell by the pointy nose. DC-8s have a more rounded nose. It remember it being a pretty good movie -- hard to believe it was 15 years ago.
Mace_RB 41
Also, in the first clip -- at one point you can glimpse the INS area of the DC-8, and it looks like there is an FMC there instead. My guess is that they didn't have a 1960's era DC-8 cockpit available for the movie. Who would notice things like that, except for us?
