Hi

I can't resist to give this challenge a try ;-)

I will use the L049 Constellation from A2A with old fashioned way of navigation with sextant shots over sees, using the sextant gauge originally developed by Dave Bitzer and Mark Beaumont, and ported to FSX by Kris Ogonowski (Kronzky) (ok in P3D).

Here is the routing I plan to achieve if I can do it in due time....

Woouuuaaaahhhh, I have to tell you the arrival in Djibouti....

In fact everything went fine up to the last couple of miles....

In cruise at the end of the day

Please login to display this image.

Nice colors arriving

Please login to display this image.

and begining of Descent: PA is reduced to 16" and RPM 1600.. Cowl flaps nearly closed in order to avoid a too low cylinder temperature

Please login to display this image.

Please login to display this image.

Time to reduce speed by increasing the drag (approach flaps and gear down)

Please login to display this image.

Then increase PA to around 30" and RPM 2500 to maintain 120kts while making a few S turn to loose some altitude when....

Engine 2 was on fire :focus_s:

A quick glance to the cylinders temperature and I understood that I forgot to re-open the cowl flaps when I increased the power

Then All engines was overheating....:excl:

Quick all cowl flaps fully open and while the passengers was scared manage to shut off the fire on engine2....OUF

Still to compensate with a bit of right foot on rudder and we are on short final for rwy90 in Djibouti

Here on the right indicator, you cans seen engine 2 RPM at 0...

Ouf safe landing and passengers clapping...

Happy to be still in the 80 days WT adventure which is really top challenging :glider_s:

  • 3 weeks later...

Report of the flight of 24 october from BOMBAY (VABB) to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International. Airport (VANP) 370NM on my way to Calcutta.

The aircraft for today is the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress from A2A.

The liverie is the F-BEEA Repaint by Mike Sweeney

I choosed this repaint because it was the last B17 operated by the "Institut Geographique National " still flying until it crashed during the filming of the movie "Memphis Belle" :( Hopefully the 10 crew members escaped safely.

the flight plan for today is very simple
