24 October.  Nagpur  VANP to Bhubaneswar VEBS 384nm.  Did a software update at Nagpur to X-Plane 11.10b4.  In addition to scenery improvements, my aircraft was updated and more comprehensive avionics installed - help! :o  I had a long trip ahead so decided to set off and try to come to terms with a different system en-route.  Arrived safely but will try to restore my original avionics until I can get some practice time in.

Bhubaneswar - Wind 190° 8kt. Visibility 5000m. Haze. Clouds few 2000ft, scattered 10000ft. Temperature 31°C, dew point 26°C. QNH 1010hPa. Becoming: Visibility 3000m. Haze.

27 October.  Chittagong VGEG to Chiang Mai VTCC 453nm.

Long flight today so reverted to Garmin 1000 as I think I have the basics now.  I must try to find a youtube tutorial to explain the complexities.

Very low cloud at the start so I needed to climb above it to overfly Nat Ma Taung, at 10,000 ft the highest mountain in Chin State of Burma.  Visibility still bad even at this height on the West side of the mountain range.  Thankfully things improved on the East side and on to Chiang Mai in Thailand.

Change Mai  - Wind 230° 2kt. Visibility 4000m. Mist. Clouds few 2000ft, scattered 5000ft. Temperature 21°C, dew point 21°C. QNH 1013hPa.

28 October.  Chiang Mai VTCC to Sakon Makhon VTUI 310nm.

Lovely day for flying.  Being a little more adventurous with the G1000 but still can't get the hang of changing altitude without cancelling autopilot.

Sakon - Wind 160° 4kt, varying from 140° to 210°. Visibility 8000m. No clouds. Temperature 24°C, dew point 20°C. QNH 1013hPa.

October 30.  The weather was bad yesterday so I decided to stay put and see how things improved.  Storms still in southern Thailand and Malaysia so I will adapt my route to Hong Kong.

Today Sakon Makhon VTUI to  Sanya Phoenix ZJSY on Hainan Island 310nm.

SIGMET is showing thunder storms moving SW so I hope they will be clear by the time I arrive late afternoon.

Sanya - Wind 070° 4mps. Visibility 10km or more. Clouds broken 6600ft. Temperature 25°C, dew point 17°C. QNH 1017hPa.

November 3.  Spent today in Guilin.  A remarkable location and plenty of visitors.  Explored the city centre and the Reed Flute Cave. A fantastic underground trip with stalactites and stone pillars illuminated with coloured lights.  Tomorrow I plan to take a trip down the Li river to Yangshuo County and visit the famous Moon Hill Arch.

4 November.  Guilin.

I set off early for the 4 hour trip down the Li river with its spectacular scenery - quite an experience. We arrived in Yangshuo and looked around the town, then took the short trip to Moon Hill, a dramatic natural arch eroded from the limestone.

There, was introduced to a local man, Kong Feng, who owns a Skyhawk.  He generously offered to fly with me back to 35 miles to Guilin.  We set off from a small private air strip near Yangshuo and followed the river back.

This was quite a special day but off to bed early for the final trip of this leg to Hong Kong.

8 November.  Hong Kong VHHH to Xiamen ZSAM 286nm.

Xiamen - Wind 050° 4mps. Ceiling and visibility OK. Temperature 22°C, dew point 15°C. QNH 1017hPa.

Some rain when leaving Hong Kong and more cloud cover than indicated on METAR.

Interesting flying the Epic Victory.  It is a quite a fast aircraft, has a max speed of 319kn; cruising speed of 250kn and has a range of 1200nm. Unfortunately there is no reverse thrust so I found landing a little challenging.

Visiting Taiwan tomorrow, making a couple of stops there before returning to the mainland.

10 November.  Kaohsiung RCKH to Taipei RCTP and on to Fuzhou ZSFZ

Two hops today.  North to Taipei to see the famous Taipei 101, the world'd tallest building until 2010.  Landing the Epic Victory is still giving me some problems and I ran out of runway in Taipei - should really have gone around but underestimated the braking distance.  In view of some short runways later on, I have called back to Hong Kong and arranged for my Cirrus SF20 to be flown to Fuzhou to meet me tomorrow morning - it stops quicker!

Taipei - Wind 030° 3kt. Visibility 2600m. Mist. Clouds few 1400ft, scattered 2600ft. Temperature 24°C, dew point 22°C. QNH 1014hPa.

Hi Steve, thanks for comment. Nifty looking jet you are flying and also some great pics. I see we also coincided in Nagpur and Sanya! I flew on this morning and arrived in Fukuoka in Japan. Somewhat perturbed with the pictures in the news this morning of a Flybe Dash 8 landing with its nose gear up. Will get that checked but my Flybe Dash has only one more leg to complete to Haneda. Which global scenery are you using ? Having not flown significantly for a couple of years I've been very impressed looking through the logs here at the quality of the background scenery. Makes my default FSX stock look very dated. Safe flights on to Tokyo, James

Hi Steve, I've been flying the MS Flight Simulator on and off since about 1997 and the FS98 variant. Very enthusiastic in the 90s, flying regularly for virtual airline Noble Air. Interest waned, then picked up with the Majestic Dash when it came out then waned again for over a year, till the Aerosoft email popped up at the end of September. I'm certainly enjoying the challenge of all the new places the trip has taken us; looking forward to a bit of 'break' while I opt for the one leg across the Pacific to San Francisco. I'm certainly impressed with the 'out of the box' scenery in your version of X-Plane. As I said, it makes the 10 year old scenery in FSX look very dated.

Happy landings,

James

14 November.  Kansai RJBB to Tokyo International RJTT 234nm.

Left Kansai early afternoon and climbed to 15,000ft for the trip. Lovely day again and great view passing by Mount Fuji.  Descent to Tokyo at 17.30 local just before the light failed - don't like landing in the dark at a new airport.  Took the train for the 30 min ride to Yokohama for a well eared rest. End of Leg 5.

Tokyo - Wind variable 1kt. Visibility 9000m. Clouds few 600ft, scattered 700ft, broken 12000ft. Temperature 13°C, dew point 12°C. QNH 1016hPa. Temporarily: Clouds few 600ft, broken 800ft.
