Another cool place to check out in Oman is the Bimmah Sinkhole. It's considered one of the world's best swimming holes.

@akanishta99

The place looks incredible.

Since tomorrow's flight path passes within a few km of  the Bimmah Sinkhole, I will definitely make a detour and check the place out. (The advantages of a bush plane with floats!).

Friday 13th October - OOSA (Salahlah, Oman)

Well it may be Friday the 13th but I trust that my luck with the new destination of Masirah Island will prove the superstition wrong.

Well today's flight could be summarized with one word - BORING! Nothing but flat sea or flat sand.

Monday 16th October - OOMA (Masirah- Oman)

With plenty of time to spare, it's off to Char Barhar in Iran via a detour to the Bimmah Sinkhole (See akanishta99's post above)  in the norther part of Oman on the coast of the Gulf of Oman.

Please login to display this image.

With the precise geographical co-ordinates, it was easy enough to locate the little town of Bimmah.

To find the sinkhole in X-Plane (default scenery) was not so easy...

A Google satellite image of the Bimmah Sinkhole.

Eventually I found where it must be by following the highway.

Please login to display this image.

This must be the sinkhole. At a terrain resolution of 72M (default X-Plane 11 Scenery) only a few colour splotches can be seen out of the side window.

This is what the Bimmar Sinkhole is supposed to look like. Known as "House of the Demon", it sure does look a little ominous!

Friday 20th October - VAAU (Aurangabad)

According to Jules Verne's novel, Fogg, Passepartout, Sir Francis Cromarty & Co. rescued a girl called Aouda from being sacrificed in a religious ritual just before arriving at Aurangabad. From now on she now travelled with them.

So from now on I will assume that the passenger weight in the Kodiak will increase by 60Kg since there are now three people aboard (until Kolkata).

Hi Dave

I had my modem hit with a big Jhb storm. Just replaced, so flying again.

Given the time single prop takes, I use autopilot. I deviate with manual flying if I see something interesting. I'm currently heading down Malaysia towards Darwei airport.

Agree, geography lessons are good in this type of challenge.

Safe travels

Josie at the start of summer = lightning strikes. Suck it up   B)

At least you have water - we have a serious drought here in Cape Town!

I am currently flying down the coast of Burma, and when I see all the lush vegetation I get green with envy.  Dunno about the heat and snakes though!

You right - that drought is harsh in CT. When I lived there between 1997 and 2001, there was one from about 1998/99 to 2000, which was bad, but not as bad as now.

Safe travels. I will fly tomorrow again, but am going to try the Carenado B690 Turbo Commander. Need to learn to fly it better first.

Best wishes

Good luck with a new aircraft. I'm finding it challenging enough just to master the Quest Kodiak!
