Scenery order form

I have read in several places that it is not a good idea to try to move things around on your own within the scenery.cfg file. Instead, you should acquire a good program that does the editing for you. There are free programs that will do this for you. The one that I used most with my FSX setup is Scenery Config Editor, available at https://sourceforge.net/projects/fs-sceditor/?source=directory. I used it for a while and it is helpful. However, I scrapped that in favor of aerosoft's multi-purpose program called SimStarter NG. At €14.99, it is not cheap. But it works for FSX, FSX-SE, PreparV2 and PreparV3, and it does much more than just organize your scenery.cfg file. I've had it for a couple of months now, and I am still learning how to use all of its features.

Whether you use a free program or buy one, you must determine how you want to organize your scenery.cfg file because each program only does what you tell it to do. I've read about different organization systems, but I haven't found any program that will organize the entries in the file for you. In my case, I was pretty oblivious to the scenery.cfg file until I started adding Orbx packages. But then I found a very useful resource at http://c-aviation.net/fsx-scenery-library-order-orbx-global/ that has helped me immeasurably. There is a fairly specific list at the top of the page, followed by a more general explanation of the major sections. If you don't have any Orbx software, just ignore those entries in the list. Good luck!
