Kitty Hawk and FLOLS with VRS Super Bug & TacPack

On page 4 of the Carrier Ops manual, it says:

"...when approaching in an aircraft different than the Aerosoft F-14, you will need to manually insert a line in your aircraft.cfg, so you have the gauge that controls the FLOLS.  Again, you will not need to interact with the gauge in any way, it's enough to have it installed.  The gauge itself will be placed in your FSX/Gauges directory when the Kitty Hawk is installed, and you don't need to move it."

So, if I'm using the VRS Super Bug with TacPack and want to land on the Kitty Hawk, am I to understand that I don't need to do anything and that the FLOLS and ILS cues/glideslope will be correct?  Or is there something I have to insert in its aircraft.cfg, and if so, what?

boNes........ that depends. If you have entered the kitty hawk into the Tac pack manager and then select it through the vrs carrier. it should work. But if you use ai carriers then you need to add the FLOLS line to the config in the panel folder of the F-18.

By "select it through the VRS carrier" do you mean spawning it from the add-on>carrier menu?  OK, so spawning a carrier on the fly works, but if you are using a previously saved flight/mission or making one, then you have to add the line to the config in the panel folder?

yes spawning through the add-on using VRS carrier. but you have to open the tack pack manager and select the Kitty Hawk and place it into the list of carriers so it can be seen in the add-on .  The problem with the VRS F-18 is that if you use Ai-carriers to spawn a carrier.........the FLOLS wont light up. and the nav aids wont work.................now that I think of it the meat ball might not work spawning through VRS carrier unless you first put the FLOLS line in .

boNes.....I'm a hack so I might have given bad advice with good intensions.

Ok I removed the line from the F-18 and lost the meat ball.................... so yes you need to add the FLOLS line to the F-18......My bad sorry for the confusion.

Well I can say this:  I've only spawned carriers on the fly.  When I spawned the Kitty Hawk, I got FLOLS and meatball, and I know next to nothing about adding lines or anything so I didn't do that, so somehow it seems to have worked fine just spawning it.  I don't recall listing it in TacpPack Manager, but I saw it was there added in already (maybe TPM goes through your available carriers and automatically adds them during installation?).

IF the carrier and FLOLS is working, that's fine.  I'm just wondering about the Super Bug on the Kitty Hawk because it doesn't seem to give me the right glideslope, but I don'tknow for sure as maybe I'm just used to the handling characteristics of the Tomcat.

well if you bought the recent version of the F-18 they may have added it in the recent updates.

if you have only used the carriers through spawning them you may not know it but the kitty hawk and her escort can be found in various places throughout the sim world when you start the game.

If you look in the manual, carrier operations, carrier routes it will tell you where to find them.

boNes let me start by apologizing for any confusion..................the FLOLS is a visual aid that's on the port side of the boat. It lights up and lets you know if you are above or below the glide slope. The yellow ball in the center is the meat ball. I just installed the new version of the F-18 and had to re-insert the FLOLS line to activate the lights. If you know how to copy and past its not that hard but I understand your apprehensiveness.

As for the nav aids tacan and ILS they should work but. If your not lining up on the ILS you have to go into the tack pack manager and a just it. Open TPM and click on carriers. you should see carrier presets. Theirs a drop down window that will show a list of carriers that you can use in the game. select one that you know the ILS works correctly. now down the page you should see ILS offsets. jot the numbers down . the select the Kitty Hawk. If the yellow cone in the picture is strat down the middle of the boat then change the numbers in the offsets...........................well I hope that helps...........................JR1Wingnut.

JR,

No need for apologies.  Thanks for the help and insight. Things are a little weirder now.

Let's start from the top. I had installed TacPack, Super bug, then Aerosoft F-14X.  I did nothing special like adding gauges to the Super Bug (I don't even know how) or even doing anything in TacPack since the Kitty Hawk was already listed there without me having to do anything.  I'd fly the Super Bug and spawn Kitty Hawk on the fly over Lake Michigan.  the Kitty hawk would appear, the FLOLS worked with good lights.  My question at the time was whether the FLOLS was giving me cues for a Super Bug or was it till giving me cues for a Tomcat.  ie, was it valid for the Super Bug?

Now here is the most recent and weird development.  Now the FLOLFS is gone.  No lights.  I think this may have occured after I installed the newest version of the Super Bug.  I tried an uninstall and reinstall but still nothing.  The VRS guys dont' seem to think that the FLOLS was ever working in the Super Bug, but I know it was working before.  They think then that maybe if the Super Bug is already installed, then you install F-14X, it looks at all the aircraft in your inventory and adds the gauge and since I delted the previous Super Bug and reinstalled the newest version, maybeit didn't get the gauge installed into it.  So, to test that theory, I left the Super Bug in and uninstalled then reinstalled F-14X.  this way it would write the Kitty hawk gauge into the Super Bug.  But, it didn't work, i still got no FLOLS.

So...ideas?  My biggest question is why was it working before?

I hesitate adding a gauge since the guys at VRS said "Doing so to your Superbug is not recommended as it will void your support access."
