Hey @Phillippe, along with the IL-18's I think I also saw an AN-72.  But, it appeared to be operational, so maybe it was not there during your visit.

And a view from the control tower walkway, looking past the front of the airport.2017-4-18_1-59-10-380.thumb.jpg.66558a2d612346c5ee8aacf853bfa5df.jpg

(LUKK Chisinau by Drzewiecki Design.  There is a temptation to show many more pictures.  I could go on a length with praise for this airport.  The ambiance of the old and derelict Soviet-era airframes scattered about.  The surrounding landclass work really help to establish the scene of an airport in a mostly rural and agricultural area.)

Thanks @dcda

I totaly agree with what you wrote about this fantastic addon ... I also wanted to post much more pix about ti and the rural surrounding ..

A nice catch I think! Thanks Tobus to making us visit Chicinau airport!

Hi everybody, coming closer to Split!

Leg 111 (or so...) completed: LUKK-LHBP

Budapest, the 'other' pearl of the Danube

Flight route. Green, planned; Red, actual.

17042211410210968214995522.jpg

Saturday April 22nd, 2 PM at gate Mike-6 after pushback, we’re ready to leave bound to Budapest. Some interesting birds at Chisinau international airport.

17042211410610968214995523.jpg

At 3,600 feet climbing to 8,000 feet, heading southwest, we have a last sight at Chisinau, in the distance, while we fly over the city of Laloveni.

17042211411110968214995524.jpg

Climbing to FL200, six minutes after takeoff, we see the meanders of the Prut River, a tributary of the Danube, which is here the border between Moldova and Romania. At the background, we can see the Eastern Carpathian range.

17042211411510968214995525.jpg

View from FL360 of the Romanian city of Bacău on the Siret River with several reservoirs. This old European city was famous for a nice common life of Catholics and Jews until WW2. In 1930, half the population was Jews and there were some 28 active synagogues. All this population vanishes in Nazi camps…

17042211412210968214995526.jpg

Heading due west, in the vicinity of Cluj-Napoca, we cross the path of a DHL Airbus A300 freighter a few thousand feet below.

17042211412910968214995527.jpg

We have entered the Hungarian airspace and begun our descent to our destination. At FL330, we are descending to FL280. We see on our left, the Romanian border city of Oradea.

17042211413410968214995528.jpg

At FL240 descending to FL200 over the Hortobágy national park on our right. This is an 800 km2 park in eastern Hungary that is the largest semi-natural grassland in Europe with several man-made lakes well seen here. In that direction, just at 40 km, there is the border between Hungary and Slovakia. At the background, we can see the white summits of the Tatra Mountains. On the other side of these mountains, this is Poland.

17042211404910968214995519.jpg

At 2,500 feet we align on the localizer  of runway 31R over the city of Monor.

17042211405510968214995520.jpg

Parked at gate Golf-26 at Budapest-Ferihegy international airport, just close to an Air France bird, after a 1 hour 6 min flight from Chisinau. It’s 2:40 PM local time, Hungary is 1 hour ahead of Moldova … and outside is a nice April day here, with a pleasant 14°C but it’s a bit windy. We have a full week to enjoy Budapest, a wonderful city to spend a week indeed!

17042211410010968214995521.jpg

17042211413710968214995529.jpg

That's all guyz!

have great flights and happy landings.

Hi guyz

Last leg of this series ...

Leg 112 completed: LHBP-LDSP

To Split!

Flight route. Green, planned; Red, actual.

17042911394510968215008433.jpg

Saturday April 29th, at gate G26 at Budapest-Ferihegy international aiport, it’s 2PM and we’re ready for the last leg of this batch of flights. Our today destination is Split, the famous resort city on Dalmatian Coast.

17042911392310968215008428.jpg

Taxiing to runway 31L, we pass along two nice birds, a Turkish Airlines cargo Airbus A300F and, a rather unusual sight, a Boeing 707 of the Royal Canadian air Force.

17042911392810968215008429.jpg

Heading south, at 5,600 feet climbing at 8,000 feet, we fly over the southern suburbs of Budapest. We have a nice view on the Danube River, Budpaest old city, and the Maragret Island and the Lagimanyosi Bay, in form a triangle on the right bank of the River. We also see the Rákóczi Bridge that connects Buda and Pest across the Danube.

17042911393210968215008430.jpg

At FL210 climbing to FL320 and heading southwest, we have a view on Lake Velence (26 km2). This lake, just 15 miles of Budapest, is a popular holiday destination among Hungarians. Because of the sunny climate of the area and the shallowness of the lake, it is one of the warmest lakes in Europe.

17042911393810968215008431.jpg

Four minutes later, at our cruise altitude (FL320) we fly by the Lake Balaton, the German Plattensee. This freshwater lake of about 600 km2 is the largest lake in Central Europe, and one of the most famous tourist destination in all Europe. The Zala River provides the largest inflow of water to the lake, and the canalised Sió is the only outflow. A nice view of the biggest city on its eastern shore, Siófok.

17042911394310968215008432.jpg

Six minutes later, we pass over the Drava River that marks the border between Hungary (behind us) and Croatia (ahead of us). The Hungarian city of Barcs can be seen on the left bank of the river.

17042911384910968215008422.jpg

At 15,000 feet descending to 10,000 feet, we fly over the northern parallel valleys of Bosnia. On our right, the Buško Lake that is formed on the largest karst field in the world: the Livenjsko Fields.

17042911385510968215008423.jpg

At 8,600 feet descending to 2,800 feet heading south in the downwind leg of the approach to runway 05, we cross the Adriatic coast over the Croatian city of Šibenik.

17042911390210968215008424.jpg

Our destination is on the other side of this peninsula. The coast is extremely indented here.

17042911390710968215008425.jpg

Finale for runway 05, we fly over the Croatian city of Trogir. Split is on the other side of the airport. Trogir has 2300 years of continuous urban tradition. Its culture was created under the influence of the ancient Greeks, and then the Romans, and Venetians. Trogir has a high concentration of palaces, churches, and towers, as well as a fortress on a small island, and in 1997 was inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List. We can see the historic city of Trogir situated on a small island between the Croatian mainland (on left) and the island of Čiovo (on right). An old bridge links the two … and there are a lot of sailboats. A nice resort, obviously!

17042911391310968215008426.jpg

At parking 1 of Split-Kastela international airport after a flight from alsmot one hour from Budapest. We are here for two weeks of holidays … yeeha! Nobody can dream better than two weeks in Split area at the beginning of May! Again, a very nice Aerosoft addon … look at the quality of the apron.

17042911391810968215008427.jpg

17042911394810968215008434.jpg

That's all folks!

Enjoy your stay at Split ...

Philippe

I decided not to select optional airports as proposed by Toby, however, I wanted to stop over at any of these marvelous small airports in the Aegean.

Due to bad weather conditions we did not plan a direct route to LGKJ, however, we decided to fly very low under the low hanging clouds following the ferry routes.
17043011163120410615012384.jpg

The weather map shows the situation mentioned before. We had to expect clouds and rain for the first half of the leg.
17043011110420410615012363.jpg

We boarded already in heavy rainy weather.
17043011110020410615012362.jpg

Other than on our arrival at Antalya one hour earlier we did not use runway 36, but we started from runway 18L.
17043011110520410615012364.jpg

We did not succeed in avoiding the clouds completely.
17043011110720410615012365.jpg

After about an hour into the flight we recognized on the left side the small airport of Kastelorizo.
17043011111120410615012366.jpg

After a procedure turn we had been on final approach to runway 14.
17043011111520410615012367.jpg

The Dove has amazing STOL capabilities. After a really short rollout we turned left to the parking area.

- greekislands.zip  and greekislandsvol2.zip by Gianmarco Esposito, thank you for the nice sceneries!

After the short leg from LTAI to LGKJ we had one longer leg to fly for this day. The route leads first west-north-west to Rhodes and then in a long curve towards west following various smaller islands til Iraklion.
17043011114920410615012369.jpg

Weather map still showed clouds for this legs but no rain cells.
17043011115120410615012370.jpg

We are taxiing to the very end of runway 14.
17043011115420410615012371.jpg

It was easy to stop the Dove on this short runway, however, it took almost the full length of the runway to get airborne again.

Philippe, watch this steep climb out of runway 14.
17043011115920410615012373.jpg

We are turning west heading for Rhodes.
17043011120120410615012374.jpg

We are crossing the northern tip of the Island of Rhodes. On the left we recognize the military airport and on the right side the civilian airport for all the European vacation airliners. Once per week at Wednesday there even arrives a B747 from Moscow.
17043011120420410615012375.jpg

We are approaching Crete from the east. There is a black wall of clouds ahead of us.
17043011120620410615012376.jpg

On our first attempt to land we had been too high. ATC would not allow an earlier descend. Thus we had to declare a missed approach which led to the north on the sea. Here we are coming back to turn right for a second attempt.
17043011120820410615012377.jpg

The second attempt had a better height and we could recognize the airport in the misty air.
17043011121020410615012378.jpg

Also on this busy Greek airport there had been lots of European vacation airliners.
17043011121320410615012379.jpg

We arrived at our stand, next to two B737’s from AirBerlin resp. Thomson.

Wish you all always happy landings

After four tries, I was able to fly from Aerosoft [Mega] Budapest to Aerosoft Split without OOM.

Split has a reputation for high VAS use, Budapest also not small.

Also contributing:

  • the OrbX version of LSDP in the EU freeware package (it gets over-ridden by the Aerosoft install, but the files seem to be read anyway).
  • using High-Definition cockpit textures for the Airbus.
  • (my computer might be having some problem, or Microsoft is being a pain)

I was able to make the flight with the following precautions:

  1. Turned off the Budapest City scenery layer (I like the look of Global Base more than the photo imagery anyway). [~300 KB]
  2. Removed the [5?] LDSP files from the Orbx/EU ....../scenery directory [~200 KB]
  3. Only cockpit views, or looking from the cockpit, during departure.  (Jumping out of the plane loads the external model and textures). [~300 KB]
  4. Not using GSX at departure

It was very close, but no warning "bing."

Flight reports pending.

Hi everybody,

Dale, I got the same problems with the Budapest scenery layer, so I turned to FTX. Besides, I got almost-OOM ... the computer screen becoming suddenly full dark ... and a few seconds later, the view reappaering etc.

Very strange and annoying.

Gernot, this Dove bird is a nice 'girl' indeed and you convinced me ... I got the addon ! :)

I also noticed a strange coincidence ...

here's one of your screenshot: a german guy parked next to a german bird ... Naturlich!

Would the AI that controls the automatic trafic knows in some way that this user is from that country and put a bird of the same country just besides ??? LOL

Sorry guyz, my mind is getting a bit hectic  these days ... facing that France could become ruled by a woman from extreme-right makes me very very at unease.

Best and have great flights,

Philippe

I realized very strange effects with my MegaAirport Budapest by Aerosoft (V1.20). The framerate dropped to unbelievable 0,3 FPS!!!

Found some explanations on this topic by Matthis at this forum. But I think the nicest scenery is not acceptable if you can't fly there. I'm not looking for nice static pictures!

And I will not accept to be forced to change settings which worked for multiple add-on sceneries around the world.

That's funny indeed, however, I doubt that the AI is artificial or intelligent enough to realize the coincidence.:D

Calm down Philippe!

We had votes on Trump, on Brexit, and on Erdogan. That's already three unbelievable events. We are not ready for a fourth one like FN. Wish the voters would have at least a little bit of AI.:)

Wow, Gernot, I forgot about that too -- on my third try mine dropped to 3,0 then the system crashed shortly after takeoff.  The last try it "only" dropped to about 9,0.

I did not see Mathis' comments when I looked, but I will search again, thank you.

But I completely agree about not changing settings for one add-on.  Aerosoft disappointed me with this one.

Much reactionary forces in the world today.  [Little] people fear change.  At least we can hope for a slow release of the pressure without true madness coming to pass.  For example, despite all of Trump's big talk and claims, he really has not been able to get much done.  Ozymandias will crumble, and only the sand will remain.

"We cannot understand the moral Universe. The arc is a long one, and our eyes reach but a little way; we cannot calculate the curve and complete the figure by the experience of sight; but we can divine it by conscience, and we surely know that it bends toward justice. Justice will not fail, though wickedness appears strong, and has on its side the armies and thrones of power, the riches and the glory of the world, and though poor men crouch down in despair. Justice will not fail and perish out from the world of men, nor will what is really wrong and contrary to God’s real law of justice continually endure."

2017-14-26 [113]: Chisinau [LUKK] - Ferenc Liszt Intl [LHBP], Budapest, Hungary

After a nice week in Chisinau, it was time to move on.  As has been previously reported, one apron on the East side of the airport has old plane in pieces.  On the side of the airport, an almost boneyard -- some TU-134s and AN-26s.2017-4-26_21-40-34-247.thumb.jpg.7660f606780510cc466262571974e301.jpg

LUKK 08.POGA5K.POGAV Z650 NARKA DCT ABONY.ABON2R.ILS13R LHBP

This flight took us over Transylvania (fortunately, no bats flying around).  As we look down, we see three small reservoir lakes.  Only the one at the top, Tarniţa, is natural.  The lowest one, Gilău Lake, was the result of a 23 M dam, built in 1971.  The middle lake, Someşul Cald, was produced by another power-dam built in 1983.

Directed around to the northwest of the airport for the approach, which passed over Budapest's III kerület [District III].  The site of a [looks like] oil-fired power plant.  The exhaust/disposal flame was visible for miles.2017-4-26_23-1-4-960.thumb.jpg.05a42cd4c86afe38d3afdc3ba2ac8b71.jpg

2017-04-30 [114]: Budapest [LHBP] - Split, Croatia [LDSP]
~ 2017-05-01 ~

After several attempts, I managed to complete the last of this set of legs.  More ground activity on Monday morning.  And, it seems strangely fitting that I should look up from my cockpit preparations to see this:
2017-4-30_21-29-50-105.thumb.jpg.b330d0c6248e4cf524faa91bf9597507.jpg

The Wizz Air bird painted to recognized Budapest's bid for the 2024 Olympic. . . only, Budapest withdrew their bid in mid-March.  So Budapest left the bid, and I was leaving Budapest.
A bit thoughtless of Wizz to send that airplane here as only a sad reminder.  [In real-life, the plane has not yet been repainted, but I find no records of it visiting Budapest since March, so not as insensitive as in the sim.]

The Clearance controller kept trying to send me to the runway on the other side of the field, but on this occasion, I requested a change to shorten the taxi.

LHBP 31-L.PUST3D.PUSTA DCT VEBAL UL196 UNIPA DCT OKLAX.OKLA3C.ILSZ05 LDSP

From that opposite runway (31-R), the PUST3D departure looks a little crazy on the 'Bus display.  But, after takeoff, the loop was removed and it became straight.

2017-4-28_22-10-31-281.jpg.50bced3040a2ca912a1f376bfcc35c6e.jpg.

In any case, the departure is straight to altitude, an initial fix, and then left over the city.  Holding below 18000 feet until the PUSTA waypoint.

During the left turn, those on the left side of the airplane have a view of the Danube, and of Népliget ["People's Park"].  110 hectares set aside to memorialize the 100th year anniversary of the joining of the cities Pest, Buda and Óbuda to form Budapest.  Site of the first Hungarian Gran Prix [1936], but now reported as dark and populated by some less-savory characters.2017-4-30_21-53-26-923.thumb.jpg.6dfd28e4ac953b95aaf32b18adb2bca7.jpg

After an uneventful flight, assigned to an approach which travels out over the Adriatic.  Here, already established on the localizer.   Toby, I think your downwing and base legs were a little shorter than some of ours.
I notice that large ship in the drydock.2017-4-30_22-45-40-444.thumb.jpg.f1f301cee6fc9cba308bc649a4704050.jpg

(Split X by Aerosoft [PAD-Labs])

I suppose, if we are lucky enough to depart from runway 05, on a clear day, we might get a glimpse of Diocletian's [retirement] Palace.

After the troubles with the Aerosoft LHBP, and reading the admission that it was an early-technology add-on, I decided to try the LHS version.  A view of the cargo-area terminal 1.  This can be compared to photo in the earlier post.2017-5-1_23-1-42-988.thumb.jpg.3e8aae627ca99107e450b50ef4adab31.jpg

(LHBP, Budapest by LHS)

For this version, the frame rate was much improved; averaged 20-25 fps, with occasional drops to 15-18 fps.
My test has the VAS as ~200 KB less than Aerosoft LHBP with Budapest City, and about ~150 KB more than Aerosoft LHBP without the city.

I was able to fly all the way to Split, but OOMed while on the taxiway turning off lights and TCAS.  Not able to park.

As I mentioned in the earlier post, the successful flight was very close to the VAS ceiling. It looks like that 150 KB difference between LHS and Aerosoft without the city was too much.  Of course, all the elements contribute, but I consider the "culprit" to be the Split add-on which uses a large amount of VAS for an airport of its size.  The developers produced a lovely add-on, but it seems to take a little more than a fair share of memory when used with other add-ons.
I can hardly wait for P3D to go 64-bit and to make the shift to use (we all pray) most of our existing add-on.

@Tobus perhaps we can have a smaller airport as the first destination of our last set of legs to avoid VAS problems?
