HowTo 006: Using FileSwitcher

FileSwitcher is a new Feature that comes up with the next version (> 1.3.0 rev.01).

 

Background:

Very often 3rd party scenery Addon require to disable files of the scenery to make them compabile with other AddOns. Examples are FTX GEN Germany North, Simmershome LightPatch and many more. FileSwitcher gives you two major benefits:

 

1. Very easy and comfortable GUI based file renaming
2. PRESET with a lot of "SwitchSets" that are based on common recommendations of the AddOn Vendors

 

PLEASE ONLY USE FILESWITCHER IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING! FileSwitcher renames files inside your file strukture which can cause problems with AddOns.

We dont't support errors after renaming files, we just provide the tool to do it.

 

Requirements:

• SIMstarter NG > 1.3.0 rev. 01

 

HowTo Using FileSwitcher Search and Switch:

• Select the root folder for searching the files
• Enter a search string (Wildcards * are allowed)
• Check "Search without subdirectories" if you don't want to search sub directories as well
• Click "Search" and Results will show the search results
• Check all lines that you want to switch
• At Switch files you can choose if you want to "Add a file extention" or "Remove a file extention" (see example below)
• Click "Switch" to rename the selected files

 

Example:

"Add extention"    will rename "test.bgl"                  to  "text.bgl.offSIMstarterNG"
"Remove extention" will rename "test.bgl.offSIMstarterNG"  to  "test.bgl"

 

HowTo use Presets:

 

A lot of presets will come up front with SIMstarter NG FileSwitcher. At the moment we have:

• Select your current ConfigSet (Presets are marked as "Preset")
• Once the preset has been selected the result shows you colored lines (green=File already switched, red=file not found, gray=file ready to switch)
• Check all files that should be renamed
• Click "Switch files" to rename all selected files

 

You can create your own "SwitchSets" as well for individual "renameing jobs". This SwitchSets can be created from the Logfile (previous switches) or by choosing files from the filesystem.

 

Note: Presets can't be modfied. To modify them create a copy.
