  1. Hello Sascha,

Here is a faster way to compare files in 2 folders:

    1. Open the Command prompt window and go inside the 1st folder (cd "folder one" to go down, cd.. to go up).

    2. Type dir > folder1.txt This will create a text file with the folder details

    3. Proceed similarly for the 2nd folder: you get another text file, like folder2.txt

    4. Start Excel, and open the folder1.txt text file, select 'All files (*.*)'. A 3 steps wizard appears. Select 'fixed width', in the 2nd step make sure all columns include all characters and drag the lines if necessary, in the 3rd step select an appropriate format for each column. (I skip some details.) Then remove unwanted rows with subfolders, volumes info: keep only files info (being careful not to remove some by accident)... Save. Proceed similarly for the folder2.txt.

    5. Then you can open these 2 Excel files and compare the data in Excel.

Hope this helps. It certainly does for me.

    Regards,

    Raymond

  2. Hello Sascha,

Thanks, it's a pleasure! I like doing this type of things because I like trying to go the heart of problems, rather than a quick fix with potential problems...

Of course I would be interested in a free copy of Helgoland!!! It's so nice of you, and so rare these days! :):)

It's such a wonderful scenery! But I have FS9 not FSX... I don't think it works for FS9... Maybe something else.

    Thank you very much.

    Regards,

    Raymond

  3. Hi Sascha,

    Thanks for your help!

    You said:

"FSX always displays the mesh with the highest resolution - no matter which priority it has."

    Does FS9 work like this?

"Good to see you solved the problem by restoring that folder. But why do you still want to do a complete re-install?"

Well, this is because I hadn't finish yet, but now it is done: I wanted to find out exactly what files caused the CTD. Now I know: the files 024b2su1.bmp, 024b2su2.bmp, 024b2su3.bmp, 024b2su4.bmp and 024b2su5.bmp. So I replaced them by the original ones, but I kept 92 non-original files that must have been there for a reason (some give better highways). That's what is like being a perfectionnist: I spent about 40 hours investigating, but I learned as well! And I discovered that the first 3 ones caused a CTD when loading, the last 2 after loading (with funny colors on the mountain).

So, as I was not sure if that would be the fix, I asked about reinstalling anyway. We never know...

Thanks anyway for your help! That is one more good point for Aerosoft: on top of excellent addons, a good help service as well.

    Regards,

    Raymond

  4. Hi Sascha,

Thanks for your advice. I will soon reinstall FS9.

Just to see, I reconstructed the scenery\world folder (keeping the old one and renaming) using the world.cab in disk 4, and now there is no crash when using Lukla from March to September, as you said. (There are 97 files that were different, none were missing out of 3881 files: Yes I did compare both texture folders!!! About an hour focusing!)

As I will go to the Flightsim show on 8 November, I will take my time to reinstall. Just a question: If I reinstall all scenery addons, is it OK if I install a global World terrain software after Lukla for example, provided I change the priority in the scenery settings? (Lukla put above the global World terrain software)

Well, for now I can fully enjoy this GREAT Lukla scenery!

    Thanks

    Regards

    Raymond

  5. OK, thanks for your help. I now have another question

If I uninstall, is it best to:

    0. Note all settings of FS9...

    1. uninstall all FS addons using the control panel, add/remove programs,

    2. then uninstall FS9 itself using control panel, add/remove programs

    3. then check for the FS9 main folder and delete it if it still exists

    4. then reinstall FS9, install SP1 to get version 9.1 then install the addons?

Will my saved flights disappear in the process? If yes, then I need to save them somewhere in 0.

Sorry to be a pain, but I prefer asking the pros first.

    Thanks

    Regards

    Raymond

  6. Hi,

I just made some more tests again. Results:

    - When Lukla Mt Everest is activated, flying between 17 March and 18 September during the day inside the Lukla addon area (=the rectangle in p 17 of the manual) produces a CTD.

    - When Lukla Mt Everest is activated, flying between 17 March and 18 September during the day OUTSIDE the Lukla addon area (=the rectangle in p 17 of the manual) does NOT produce any CTD.

    - When Lukla Mt Everest is DEactivated, flying between 17 March and 18 September during the day INSIDE and OUTSIDE the area corresponding to Lukla addon area does NOT produce any CTD. In this case I did fly all over the area at low and high altitudes, and on many different dates, and there was no problem.

So, I can only conclude that there must be a problem with the Lukla Mt Everest addon. Unless I am missing something?!...

When running compmgmt.msc, in System Tools, Event Viewer, Application, two events appear after a CTD. The 1st event message is:

    - The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: 6.

    The 2nd event message is:

The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: 7.

I hope this might help you finding what might be wrong.

    Regards,

    Raymond

  7. Hi Sasha,

    Hi Shaun,

I have just been flying in Summer in Nepal to do some experiments:

    - there is no CTD as long as I stay out of the rectangle area part of Lukla Mount Everest addon (= the rectangle area shown in page 17 of the Lukla Manual.pdf): No problem in Lamidada or Rumjatar.

    - I flew from the North, and the CTD occurred when I was very close to the Everest base camp.

-When trying to load Phaplu airport, once it loaded but the CTD occured after ~30 seconds and once the CTD occurred when loading.

So, it is fine when outside the Lukla addon, but not when inside (problem only between 17 March and 18 September included; fine in Winter for example).

    Thanks,

    Raymond

  8. Hello Raymond,

your problem indicates that the problem lies for 100% in a corrupted texture.

It´s just a nightmare to find out which addon caused it - especially if you are totally sure not to have installed any addons that caused texture changes.

A reinstall of FS9 will help for sure but this would be the hardest action of all I guess. The SP1 for FS2004 also solves some issues with crashes at certain seasons/daytimes. Are you sure you have this one installed?

    Bests,

    Sascha

    Hi Sasha,

    Hi Shaun,

Yes I have SP1 for FS2004: I installed it ages ago and the FS9 version is 9.1.

I can not be sure whether some scenery addons I have installed caused texture changes. The question is, can a scenery addon for Europe cause a problem to a scenery addon for Asia? What I am sure is that I only have Lukla in Asia, no other scenery addon!

    Q1:

When I disable Lukla (not uninstall), I have no problem at all. So, does Lukla use standard textures of FS2004 as well, or, is the corrupt file in the Lukla - Mount Everest, Lukla_LC and/or Lukla folders of the Aerosoft folder? (And I reinstalled Lukla yesterday.)

    Q2:

By corrupted texture, do you mean a corrupted file in the Scenery\asia\texture folder or in any other texture folder? In other words, when flying in Asia, does FS use textures in any other texture folder (for example Scenery\World\texture)?

    Q3:

Or could it be a .bgl file too?

    Q4:

Could an addon for America (=nothing to do with Asia) have corrupted a texture used by Asia?

    Q5:

Could I try to copy textures from CD4 into some of the texture folders? (Of course, I would make copies of the current existing FS9 scenery folders!)

    Thanks,

    Raymond

  9. Hello Raymond,

You should use the Add/Remove Programs under the Control Panel to un-install the software then you can check the Aerosoft folder to make sure that the folder has been un-installed.

Then reboot the computer and re-install.

    Hello Shaun,

I did remove using the control panel to uninstall Lukla, checked the Aerosoft folder: was uninstalled, as expected. I rebooted and reinstalled without any problem (all successful), but the CTD still remains when selecting a day between 17 March and 18 September (for 2008) during day time.

I really don't know what causes this problem. :(

    Any other idea, please?

    Raymond

  10. Hi,

I bought Lukla for FS2004 through Simmarket and installed it in June. Everything is fine (I love it - I even put some videos on YouTube), except one problem:

On the day I installed Lukla, I realised that when loading some of the Lukla flights (for example, the yeti), FS2004 crashed to desktop. So, I thought that the crash was flight-related. (I used to fly often in October, so no problem.) But in fact, I recently realised that the crash to desktop occurs when selecting a date between 17 March and 18 September included (for 2008; for other years, it waries by +/- 1 day). After selecting the date, FS starts loading, but crashes to desktop at around 52%.

There is no problem if the date is between 17 March and 18 September and the time is during the night.

I have no other add-on for Asia: only Lukla. I run FS2004 version 9.1.

When going back to the default scenery (by unticking both Lukla scenery entries in the settings and renaming correctly the 2 FL971220 and HP971220 .bgl files in the Scenery\asia\scenery folder), there is no crash between 17 March and 18 September during the day.

So, I think there might be a missing/corrupt file in the Lukla - Mount Everest, Lukla_LC and/or Lukla folders of the Aerosoft folder (since there is no problem with the default scenery). But I don't know why there would be a missing/corrupt file already on the day I installed Lukla!?

Any idea to fix this problem?

Should I reinstall it? If yes, how exactly? (I still have the Setup.exe...) How to uninstall it without making a mess? (I love it so much, I don't want to get it worse.)

    Thanks
